A Ruthless Proposition by Natasha Anders

5670d3b1-4554-41b9-a90f-6ab745a38331I have read several books by Natasha Anders, and it’s safe to say that her male heroes are not easy to like, in a first instance. But this author creates a redeeming alpha jerk perfectly ! And it will involve a lot of groveling to be worthy of the strong and sassy heroine of this story.

Cleo Knight’s dreams of becoming a professional dancer have been shattered by an accident. She is trying to give a new direction to her life, but feels lost. She has been hired as an assistant by the multi billion dollar company owned by Dante Damaso, who also happens to be her brother’s best friend. Her relationship with him has however been anything but friendly. The unfair and scathing Dante doubts her competences and only gives her simplistic tasks. Due to a last minute business trip, Chloe finally gets the opportunity to prove herself and to accompany him.

Blinded by prejudice, condescending and unapproachable, Dante is a very Darcy-esque hero. Against his better judgment, he is unable to resist the attraction he feels for Cleo. They spend several nights together and this will result in a particular consequence, neither one of them was prepared for.
Dante’s reaction is extreme. But he will take full responsability for his actions.

I loved Cleo’s character. She is honest, direct and strong-willed. She constantly challenges Dante and forces him to reconsider his priorities. As the story progresses and Dante is unable to stay away from Cleo, he will have to change a lot in order to be worthy of her. And I totally fell for the new Dante !

Thanks to the dual POV storytelling, it is easy to connect with the characters, to see them grow and become stronger together. This book was utterly romantic and very emotional, with a perfect ending. I really enjoyed reading it. Well-done Ms. Anders !
