From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the second novel in her sizzling Fusion series that began with Listen to Me

Camilla, “Cami,” LaRue was five years old when she first fell in love with Landon Palazzo. Everyone told her the puppy love would fade—they clearly never met Landon. When he left after graduation without a backward glance, she was heartbroken. But Cami grew up, moved on, and became part-owner of wildly popular restaurant Seduction. She has everything she could want…or so she thinks.

After spending the last 12 years as a Navy fighter pilot, Landon returns to Portland to take over the family construction business. When he catches a glimpse of little Cami LaRue, he realizes she’s not so little any more. He always had a soft spot for his little sister’s best friend, but nothing is soft now when he’s around the gorgeous restauranteur.

Landon isn’t going to pass up the chance to make the girl-next-door his. She’s never been one for romance, but he’s just the one to change her mind. Will seduction be just the name of her restaurant or will Cami let him get close enough to fulfill all her fantasies?

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Landon Palazzo was a pilot in the Navy, flying was his life until a flight accident, forcing him to eject from his plane, changed everything. His injuries meant the end of his pilot career. He is thus back in his hometown of Portland.

Cami LaRue is Landon’s little sister best friend. Before he left for the Navy, Landon and Cami were friends, and even if he was absent, Landon has had a major influence on Cami’s life path, starting by her failed marriage. Cami finds her infatuation for Landon ridiculous, though and has decided to move on with her life. Things are different for Landon, he never intended to come home and it was obvious that nothing would have changed between them without his accident. This is the reason why it took me some time to warm up to his character.

In reality, Landon doesn’t know what he wants with Cami. However, the accident changed his view on life and made him realize that she is important to him. As they spend time together, their childhood crush is becoming so much more. But Cami is worried that Landon will leave again. She shouldn’t be, because Landon has finally decided to settle down. Even if it was not totally convincing, I could understand his change of heart. A life threatening accident can be a powerful catalyst to a questioning of life’s priorities.

I loved the positivity of this story and the absence of angst, making of this book a perfect feel-good summer read. Despite my initial reservation about Landon, I found the characters engaging and well-developed. Overall, Close to You was an entertaining and easy read about new beginnings and a second chance at happiness.
