Darius Bennett and Taylor Erickson were lovers and their past story was heartbreaking. Darius was convinced he wasn’t the man Taylor deserved, and made her leave him. But he never moved on and, 5 years later, he still regrets letting her go.
Darius is a complex character and can be ruthless. He was first introduced in “Bound beneath his pain”. Darius is Micah Holt’s friend and business partner, his sister Allie is Taylor’s best friend. He has been focused on his quest for power and money and has been successful. He is a very private person with emotional baggage and has a commanding, dominant side, not to mention some dirty little secrets . Although his feelings for Taylor run deep, he is convinced that he is emotionally unavailable.
His conflict was heartbreaking. Taylor has been dating a violent man, and he intends to protect her. She feels home with him, but she knows that Darius is still the one who hurt her deeply. Taylor is an attaching and likeable character. She is resilient and I definitely rooted for her.
Darius has lived his fantasies and reached the professional success he aimed for, but he feels broken without Taylor. He can’t stay away from her and offers a friends-with-benefits arrangement. Can he be the man she deserves?
Stacey Kennedy’s writing is emotion-inducing and it’s something I’m looking for in my reads. I enjoyed this story of second chance, sexy and simmering with deep feelings. The pace of the story was good and the author gave me the ending I wanted, tying up all loose ends! This book can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading “Bound Beneath his Pain” first, the characters are interconnected and the start of this book might appear a bit abrupt otherwise. This story is told in dual POV.
