Review : One Summer of Surrender (Seasons #3) by Jess Michaels

Rating : 4 Stars out of 5

Lucien Danford, Earl of Stenfax, was heartbroken when his fiancée, Elise, broke their engagement to marry a wealthy Duke. Three years later, Elise is a destitute widow, her husband died leaving her nothing. Her married life has been hell, she wants to regain her independence and is looking for a protector. Rekindling her relationship with Lucien was not on her agenda, she has never forgiven herself for what she did to him.

Lucien despises her, but he keeps coming back to her. And although he has negative feelings towards her, he is protective of her. He is generous and likable, but he is guarded, he never really recovered from his break-up with Elise. His family is worried about him, he is once again giving himself over to emotions that nearly caused his death. Despite their undeniable mutual attraction and off-the-charts chemistry, Lucien doesn’t trust Elise and refuses to let her hurt him deeply again. But Elise understands his negative feelings and she is ready to fight to earn his trust. Can Lucien give them a chance at the happiness they both so deserve?

I loved the emotional intensity of this historical romance, set in Georgian England, by a new-to-me author. I recommend this lovely story of second chance and true love, with genuine characters, emotional dialogue, steamy love scenes and a fast pace. This book is the third installment in the Seasons series, but it can be read as a standalone.

An advance copy of this book was provided by the publisher, via Netgalley.
