My name is Melody Greene, and I have a confession to make.
I slept with my student, a senior in high school.
I had multiple orgasms.
In multiple positions.
I slept with my student and I enjoyed it.
I slept with my student and I’d do it all over again if I could turn back time.
My name is Melody Greene, and I got kicked out of my position as a teacher and did my walk of shame a la Cersei Lannister from the principal’s office, minutes after said principal threatened to call the cops on me.
My name is Melody Greene, and I did something bad because it made me feel good.
Here is why it was totally worth it.
Defy is a smutty, insta-love, insta-lust short novella. Defy is a prequel to Vicious (Sinners of Saint #1). It is recommended, but unnecessary, to read Defy before reading Vicious.
Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars
After reading Vicious, I wanted to know more about Jaime and Melody. So I was very happy to see that Defy was re-released on its own. Despite the short format of this story, L.J. Shen’s writing was strong, to the point and fast-paced, her characters were vibrant and well-developed.
I loved Melody, she is a teacher but her passion has always been Ballet. An accident shattered her career dreams, and she ended up teaching Literature at All Saints Highs, a school for the children of the rich and powerful. But she hates teaching classes of arrogant and privileged teenagers she can’t control. Jaime Followhill is her student, a rich, entitled and handsome jock, member of the Four HotHoles, the town princelings. Jaime is only 18, but he definitely knows what he wants. And he wants Melody. She is embarrassed by the way she is attracted to him and tries to fight her feelings, but finally gives in. What started as a high-risk fling with a deadline ends up being so much more.
The sexy scenes were well-written and scorching hot. I was seduced by the forbidden aspect of this romance, Jaime and Melody’s chemistry was all consuming and felt real. We also get some snippets about Vicious in this story, and he behaves true to form! Overall, Defy is a great prequel to the series, and I can’t wait for Ruckus!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author.
L.J. Shen resides in sunny California with her husband, son, chubby cat and wild, wild dreams.
Her passion is to write badass stories, sushi, UFC and her awesome family and friends (not in this order, though. Obviously, sushi comes before writing. Oh, and also the family part.)
She spend the first half of her twenties traveling the world and is now paying all the fun with extra shifts in front of her MacBook. Feel free to contact her on her Facebook page. She loves to hear from her readers.
