My Review

Rating : 4.5 Stars

This was a beautiful story about love, friendship, grief, second chances and new beginnings. This story is obviously written from the heart and I can’t resist that! Devney Perry’s writing is superb, crisp, deep, emotional, and truly everything I look for in the books I read. The characters are vibrant, and they feel like sensible people with real worries and expectations.

“Tragic” is the story of two kindred spirits with similar broken hearts connecting on a deep level. It is a story that shows that a true family are those you choose, the ones that are always there for you no matter what.

Piper Campbell has moved to charming and idyllic Lark Cove to come to terms with the end of her marriage. She is Logan Kendrick’s assistant and his family are her favorite people. She is intrigued by her grouchy, brawny and yet so sexy neighbor, Kaine Reynolds.  Kaine  has gotten used to living alone and he dreads the idea of company.

The romance between Piper and Kaine came about slowly, but I really enjoyed reading about their growing relationship. At first, both of them fool themselves into thinking the relationship is short-term and nothing serious. Kaine allows Piper to feel for the first time in months, she finds peace with him. Kaine comes across as cold and silent. He has done his best to shut out everything from his past, but he is a man of passion. He is an artist and no woman has ever come between him and his craft, until Piper. While their love affair was not without a few bumps along the way and they had to learn to trust each other with their past, you could feel the love and obvious connection that these two characters had.

This really is a fantastic series built around a solid group of characters and I love it. The best thing about this series is that you come to know the characters so well. I highly recommend this book and the entire Lark Cove series!

Lovely Little Liar by J. Kenner

LLL_RELEASE BLITZ 2 copy.jpg

She’s not the woman I thought … but dammit, she’s the woman I want.

Lovely Little Liar, a sexy standalone from New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner, is LIVE!

lovely little liar_ebook_1707x2500-v2

I never thought of myself as cynical, but getting dumped at the altar changes a man.

Now, I’m all about my job. About building my business and getting on with my life. Don’t get me wrong; I still love women. I love the way they look. The way they smell. The way they feel. Especially the way they feel. And I’ve pretty much made it my mission to give each and every woman who shares my bed the ride of her life.

But getting close? Getting serious? Giving a woman my trust again?

Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

Or so I thought.

Then I met her. It’s funny how things can change in a heartbeat. How one case of mistaken identity can change everything. But there she was, all business and completely uninterested in me. And damned if I didn’t want her. Crave her.

Most of all, I wanted to help her. To keep her and her sister safe. But the more I get to know her, the more I want her. The whole package. The complete woman.

And the miracle is that she wants me, too.

Trouble is, we’ve both been burned before. Now, I know one thing for certain—the only way that we’ll survive the heat that crackles between us is if we both find the courage to leap into the fire together.

Lovely Little Liar is a novella originally published as Bitch Slap. Minor edits, such as expanded scenes, have been made to this book.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Romance books written in the guy’s first person POV are few and far between, and Julie Kenner definitely nailed it! She has woven an entertaining story in a way that is light and fun. This fast-paced story starts with a bang and a misunderstanding.

Pierce Blackwell has recently launched a security business with a few friends. Jez Stuart manages her younger sister’s acting career and needs to hire a security detail. The context of their first encounter gives rise to a hilarious confusion. Pierce and Jez are engaging characters, hiding their vulnerabilities behind a self-assured attitude. I definitely rooted for them and read their story in one sitting.

This book is the first in a new series. It is lighter compared to the books in the Stark universe. Julie Kenner’s writing is flawless and I loved the great cast of new and secondary characters. This new series definitely has potential, I can’t wait for more. If you are looking for a fun, sweet and sexy story, then this book is a good choice! This novella was originally published as Bitch Slap.

Many thanks to the author for my copy of this book!

Beautiful Sinner (Devil’s Rock #5) by Sophie Jordan

Locked in with the town bad boy . . .

Most women would be scared, but Gabriella’s only worried about resisting Cruz Walsh, who’s even hotter than he was back in high school. Cruz was wrongly accused of the high-profile crime for which he was imprisoned; Gabriella’s desperate for the scoop that will get her career off the ground and get her out of Sweet Hill, where everyone still remembers her as “Flabby Gabby.” Being stuck in a supply closet with Cruz is the perfect opportunity to land an interview. What Bri doesn’t count on is Cruz taking “up-close and personal” to a whole new level.

If there’s a silver lining to the hell Cruz went through, it’s that losing his freedom put everything in perspective. Maybe starting over someplace new would be easier, but after years locked up, Cruz values his family—and his true friends—more than ever. So he’s back home, facing the gossip, dodging reporters . . . and face-to-face with Gabriella Rossi. They’ve both changed: Bri wants a story and Cruz just wants her. Another thing he’s learned? My Review

Rating : 3.5 Stars

I started off really enjoying this book, but it started to fizzle a bit toward the middle. It was still a good read, but I thought it could have been better, I wanted more of a story, more of a romance between Cruz and Gabriella.

Cruz Walsh was the town bad boy and went to prison for the murder of Gabriella’s cousin. After seven years in prison, he was exonerated for a crime he didn’t commit. He grew on the wrong side of the tracks, he was poor and, all his life, he has been judged for his family name. I loved this character so much, he is loyal and protective. Cruz endured years in prison, yet he doesn’t begrudge anyone for it.

Gabriella and Cruz’s relationship was seven years in the making. He was her first crush, her first kiss, but she never expected to see him again. She is a journalist, though and she wants his story. But she must choose between her attraction to him and her career. Betraying Cruz’s trust would boost her career.

Cruz was all brooding sensuality but Gabriella was a tough heroine to like. Their story was smoking hot, with many intense and erotic scenes. And yet, I felt that something was missing, the emotional aspect of the story seemed underdeveloped.  I felt like I didn’t really get to know Gabriella and Cruz because their relationship felt shallow and too focused on sex.

My favorite part of the book was actually getting a glimpse at Piper, Cruz sister’s life. “Beautiful Lawman” is on my TBR, and I will read it soon.

My honest review is based on an advanced reader copy provided by the publisher. Thank you for reading!

Excerpt

“How long have you been wanting to kiss me?”

It was tempting to fling the truth at him—the truth that they had already kissed. It would feel good to catch him off guard and watch him absorb that fact.

She couldn’t do it, of course. After the satisfaction of shocking him wore off, she’d be left with the awkwardness of him knowing she was the idiot who had kissed him in the boathouse while he thought she was someone else.

“You were stroking my lips,” he reminded.

“I was checking to see if you were breathing.”

He whirled her around, sending her colliding into his chest.

“Oh!” Her hands came up to his chest, palms flattening on the very body she had only moments ago felt at her leisure. Now it felt different. Now he was awake. Alert . . .his eyes as sharp as a hawk’s gaze on her. Now his heart pounded swift and hard beneath her touch.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sweet, sexy, fun and soulful, this enemies-to-lovers story was everything that I need in a romance. One thing is for certain, Tucker Middleton is a hero worth reading about and I found myself quickly rooting for him. As for Charlie, she is so incredibly lovable, sweet and sassy.

Charleston, “Charlie”, Monroe has inherited her father’s consulting firm. But she will need to be married in order for her to become chairman of the board. The only man Charlie could ever imagine being married to is Tucker Middleton. The problem with this arrangement is that they have been enemies ever since she walked away without so much as a word, to focus solely on her studies and her father’s expectations.

The chemistry between Charlie and Tucker is amazing, they are absolutely adorable together. Their back and forth banter was irresistible. I really like second chance stories and this one was special.  Some parts were really funny and cute, with great dialogue and the author does a great job of building up the tension. This time around, Tucker is determined to level the playing field and play Charlie’s dating game by his rules.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I will certainly be picking up more books by Kelly Elliott, as this author definitely knows how to create a delightful read with endearing characters and page turning dialogue!

Many thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for my copy of this book!

Rolling over, I pulled the covers over my head and moaned.

“Oh shit,” I whispered. Even my whispered words hurt my head. I

hadn’t drunk like that in a long time.

Note to self: Give up alcohol. Except wine. Wait. No. Never ever give up

wine.

With my head still buried, I tried to think back to last night. The

last thing I remembered was talking to that guy . . . Brad. No Billy.

Bobby? Brady?

Who cares? I need aspirin.

I pushed the covers over my head and went to get out of bed. I

froze when I saw the sheets.

Oh. My. God.

These aren’t my sheets.

Turning, I looked at the bed.

This isn’t my bed.

Glancing down, I gasped.

I’m not wearing any clothes.

Covering my mouth, I jumped up. “I didn’t. Oh God, please tell me

I didn’t. Terri! I’m going to kill her.”

Frantically looking around, I saw my purse on the chair in the corner.

Rushing over to it, I dug through it until I found my phone.

As I waited for that whore to answer her phone, I mumbled, “She

broke the number one girlfriend code. Don’t let your friend leave with a

guy when they’re drunk!”

“Hey, girl! So? Did you get laid like you wanted? Please tell me yes

’cause this would make a great story.”

My heart jumped to my throat as a small sound came from my lips.

“Wh-what? Why? How could you? You let me go off with him? What if

he had killed me!”

She laughed. “Hardly. But then again, you do drive him up a wall,

and he has mentioned snuffing you out a time or two.”

My finger and thumb went to the bridge of my nose. “What are

you talking about?”

Terri muffled the phone, then laughed. “Hello? Terri! I’m at a

strange man’s house, I don’t remember anything, and I’m naked.”

“Wait. You’re naked?”

“Yes!”

“Oh, wow. Shit just got really interesting. Where’s Tucker?”

Tucker? How in the hell would I know where Tucker was?

“I don’t know! I don’t care. Terri. I don’t know where I am. He

could come back any minute, and I’m standing here naked. Oh my God.

Do you think I had sex with him?”

“Do you feel like you had sex?”

Stopping, I jumped around a bit. “No. I’d be sore if I did, right?

Fuck if I know, it’s been so long.”

Terri sighed. “It really has been that long. You’ve done forgotten

how it feels, huh?”

“Aww, hell, Mr. Pootie!”

“I’m sure he’s fine. Let’s get back to what happened between you

and Tucker last night.”

I shook my head as I glanced around the room for my clothes.

Dropping to my knees, I looked under the bed.

“Why are we talking about Tucker? I have bigger problems.”

Then I heard a male voice clear his throat.

“Oh God,” I whispered. “He’s in the room, Terri. I’m naked! I can’t

find my clothes.”

Terri laughed. “Okay, well, have fun. Tell Tucker I said hey.”

My brows furrowed, and I was about to say something when the

line went dead.

It was then I felt the change in the room, and everything from

last night came crashing back into my poor brain, causing my head to

pound harder.

Slowly lifting up, I peered over the bed, only to find Tucker leaning

up against the doorjamb. He wore a shit-eating grin on his face, and

fuck me, he looked so gorgeous.

Oh no.

I swallowed hard. “Um . . . I can’t, um. Well, it appears I am . . . you

see, I can’t find my, ahh . . . the dress I had on.”

Jesus. Why do I act like an idiot around him? Why!

“Your clothes had throw up on them. They’re almost dry.”

My stomach dropped. “Did we . . . ?”

He smiled. Full on dimples and all.

God, I want him. Even in my current hungover condition, I’ve never wanted

this man more than right now.

Wait. No. I don’t!

Yes . . . yes, you do.

Crap. What if I already had him? And I don’t remember. I’m going to be so

pissed off if we had sex and I don’t remember it.

“No, we didn’t sleep together, and for the record, you got yourself

undressed.”

Relaxing, I let out the breath I didn’t realize I held in.

Excerpt

CHAPTER ONE
London, December 1818

Lady Regina Haversham’s thirtieth birthday was precisely
one month away, which didn’t leave her much time to lose
her virginity. Not that she wanted it lost. She wanted to know
where it went and choose to whom she gave the dratted thing.

Her coach came to a stop in front of the offices of the Bow
Street Runners in central London, and she drew in a deep,
unsteady breath. She pressed her hands deeper into the white
fur muff that sat atop her lap and willed her pounding heart
to slow its nervous beat. Christmastide was her favorite time
of year. She was in high spirits, but she was also as nervous
as a young lady making her debut on her way to see the
queen. This particular outing had every chance to end in
disaster.

She glanced out the window. She probably should have
hired a hackney. It would have been less conspicuous than her uncle’s resplendent coach. There were already several on-lookers staring up at the black-lacquered conveyance with the Duke of Colchester’s seal on the side. She glanced down
at her clothing. No doubt her ensemble was too elegant for
marching into the offices of the best private investigative
team in London, but she had no other clothing to wear, and
this particular message was best delivered in person. She
didn’t know Daffin Oakleaf’s home address, and she hardly thought a note to him for what she had in mind would be appropriate. No. Regardless of the stares, she had to see him in person.

Regina had settled on the perfect birthday gift to herself.
She would spend the night with a man. Not just any man. The
finest candidate. One who had the face and body of a Greek
god. Thirty years old. Tall, fit, and handsome. Blond hair
and green eyes that held a twinkle she found irresistible.
She’d met him last summer at her uncle’s estate. Her family
had been gathered there for the unfortunate purpose of her
cousin, the marquess’s, funeral. John had been murdered,
and inappropriate or not, the man Regina had come to covet
was the Bow Street Runner who’d helped investigate his
murder.

She hadn’t seen Daffin since he’d left the estate that hot
July day taking away the two murderers in shackles. Rarely
a day passed since that Regina didn’t think of him. She’d read about him in the paper, too. Lately, there’d been a series of articles in the Times focusing on his exploits. He’d caught criminal after criminal and, according to her cousin
Nicole, made hefty bounties doing it. Now that Regina’s
period of mourning was over and her uncle was forcing the issue of her marriage, Regina was here to ask Daffin Oakleaf, legendary Bow Street Runner, to make mad, passionate love to her.

Her stomach performed a somersault. Could nerves make ne physically ill? She suspected they could.

Suspected hers would. She winced. It wouldn’t do to cast up her accounts in
front of the man. That certainly wouldn’t attract him.

She glanced at her maid, who sat on the seat facing her,
back ramrod straight. If the proper young woman knew what Regina was thinking, no doubt she’d be scandalized. Precisely why Regina had said as little as possible about their outing today. Genevieve hadn’t asked many questions. Thank
heavens.

The coachman opened the door and Regina took one more
deep breath. “Wait here,” she said to Genevieve. “I shouldn’t
be long.”

After all, how long could an indecent proposal possibly take ?

My Review

Rating : 4.5 Stars

I loved this story, it was an enchanting read with a healthy dose of suspense and great character development.

Fiona Hartley is an endearing heroine. She needs a husband to access her marriage settlement and pay a blackmailer, to protect her sister from scandal and humiliation. David Gray, the Earl of Ravenport, is the perfect candidate, due to his lack of fortune and brooding personality that keeps the competition at bay. Despite his financial difficulties, he is not easily going along with Fiona’s bold plan. He tries to scare her off, but without success. I loved Fiona’s honesty and her determination to wiggle past the earl’s defenses. She is willing to go to great lengths to protect her sister.

David was everything I love in a hero. He was protective, loyal, charming, attentive, honest. He has been deeply hurt in a previous relationship, and he has good cause to be wary of others, but Fiona brings out his tender, carefree side. He is charmed by her thoughtfulness and her honesty. He finds that he’s being irresistibly drawn to her and he can’t keep her at arm’s length.

I loved watching Fiona and David’s transformation. As soon as they meet, there is some serious tension building between them. The relationship is slow building and completely sweet, their connection is tangible. This was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Many thanks to the publisher for my copy of this book!

Excerpt

“Lord Ravenport,” Lady Callahan intoned, closing her fan with an expert flick of the wrist. “Please, allow me to present my daughter Miss Sophie Kendall and her friends Miss Fiona Hartley and Miss Lily Hartley.”

Gray exchanged the expected pleasantries, then turned to Fiona. A halo of loose curls crowned her head, and she worried her plump bottom lip. Her pink gown exposed the long column of her neck and the curve of her shoulders; he could almost see her pulse beating wildly at the base of her throat.

His instincts screamed for him to run right out of the ballroom, and yet his boots remained rooted to the floor. Worse, before he knew what he was doing he’d asked her to dance.

“It would be my pleasure,” she stammered, taking his arm.

As he led her to the dance floor he questioned his own good judgment—and not for the first time that day. He’d witnessed Miss Hartley trip and tumble into the orchestra at the Millbrook ball. He’d been dancing with Helena at the time but had paused to help her up.

So much had changed since then.

He had no idea if Miss Hartley’s dance partner had been to blame for the incident or whether she was prone to

falling, but just to be safe he tightened his hand on her waist. And they began moving to the music.

The first measure had barely played before she asked, “You received my letter?”

“I did,” he said noncommittally, twirling her beneath his raised arm.

When she faced him again, she looked him directly in the eye. “What do you think of my . . . offer?” she asked, her voice cracking on the final word.

He tamped down an unexpected pang of sympathy. “I think that we hardly know each other.”

“True, but that is easily rectified, is it not?” There it was—an unmistakable hint of desperation. And a sense of urgency that even her letter hadn’t conveyed.

“It is,” he conceded. “However, I suspect that the more we know each other, the less we’ll like each other.” Cynical but true in his experience. His parents certainly hadn’t grown fonder of each other. Neither had he and Helena.

She winced and looked away before regaining her composure. “Perhaps. But we needn’t like each other.”

Gray chuckled at that. “I never thought I’d meet some one more jaded than I.”

“So, you’ll consider my offer?” she pressed.

“I will not,” he said firmly. Under different circum stances, her fortune may have tempted him. But she was clearly intent on using him for her own purpose—and he suspected that she’d set her sights on him for reasons be yond his title. After all, there were half a dozen peers in attendance right now who’d leap at the chance to marry a young and unconventionally beautiful heiress.

But he was not one of them.

“It seems rather closedminded of you to dismiss me summarily,” she shot back, displaying a boldness that was borderline rude—and refreshing.

“If I said I’d consider your offer, I’d only be giving you false hope. Delaying the inevitable.”

“The inevitable rejection, you mean,” she clarified. “Yes.” He was still reeling from the sting of Helena’s

rebuff and wouldn’t wish anyone that sort of pain and humiliation.

“Please,” she begged. “I realize that it’s highly unusual for a woman to propose marriage—”

“It’s unheard of.”

“Surely you must be curious—as to why I did it.” She looked up at him, her shining blue eyes challenging him to deny the truth of her words.

Gray shrugged. “You have your reasons for making the offer; I have my reasons for declining it.”

“Give me the opportunity to explain,” she pleaded. “Just a quarter of an hour to make my case. If, after that, you remain unconvinced, I promise I shan’t mention it again.” He must be out of his damned mind to consider engag ing in further discussion with Miss Hartley. The very last thing he needed was another conniving, selfserving fe male attempting to interfere with his life. He had opened his mouth to tell her so when someone bumped into his

back—hard.

Gray’s torso collided with Miss Hartley’s chest, and she stumbled two steps before he wrapped an arm around her slender waist, catching her just before she landed on the parquet floor. She gasped and clung to his jacket, her ex pression an odd mix of relief and mortification.

“Oh dear,” she breathed.

Their faces were so close he could see unexpected dark blue flecks in her irises and the individual freckles dotting her nose. “Forgive me,” he said.

“For what?”

For what indeed? Steering her into the collision? Grip

ping her waist too tightly? Or for staring at the swells of her breasts and having decidedly wicked thoughts while he should have been shielding her from further embar rassment? Ignoring her question, he asked, “Are you all right?”

“I am.” Her cheeks turned a charming shade of pink. She blew out a breath and shot him a shaky smile. “When it comes to dance floor mishaps, I confess I’ve survived much worse.”

Gray looked over his shoulder to see how the other couple fared, surprised to find Helena and her dance part ner smiling apologetically.

And the truth struck him. For the last ten minutes, while he’d been dancing with Miss Hartley, he’d been completely, blissfully unaware of Helena and what she was doing. Even more remarkable, he’d forgotten that she was in the room. “Meet me in Hyde Park tomorrow,” he said to Miss Hartley, mentally cursing his own weakness. “I will listen to what you have to say, but don’t expect anything to

change my mind.”

The corners of her mouth curled in a triumphant smile. “Thank you. All I ask is that you allow me the chance to explain the advantages of the arrangement—for us both.” “Forgive me if I remain skeptical,” he drawled. “I’ll

meet you near the footbridge. Three o’clock?”

“You won’t regret this,” she said earnestly, but the prick ling sensation between his shoulder blades suggested he would. In spite of her naïveté and candor—or maybe because of those things—Miss Hartley could prove far more dangerous to him than Helena had ever been.

I’m Sterling Sparrow. You’ve no doubt heard my name or read it on the top of tall buildings. There’s more to my business—my realm—than what is seen above ground.

Within the underbelly of one of America’s largest cities lives a world where a man’s word is either his most valuable tool or his most respected weapon. When my father ruled that world and that city, he promised me someone who would one day make my reign complete.

Since that day, long ago, Araneae McCrie has been mine.

She just didn’t know.

My father is now gone.

My Review

Rating : 4.5 Stars

This introduction to “Web of Sin” kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, madly turning the pages.  I love dark, intense reads and Aleatha Romig never fails to deliver. She knows how to bring a riveting story and intriguing characters to life. The plot was well developed, with an addicting storyline. As the story progressed, it became clear that things were not as they seemed.

Kennedy is a successful businesswoman whose past is covered in a veil of secrets. Many questions remain unanswered and her life has been turned upside down by the fear of danger. You can’t help but feel for her. I loved that she was such a strong character, defiant, outspoken and determined.

Sterling is danger personified and yet he is a total enigma. Frankly, the jury is still out on whether he is Kennedy’s knight in shining armor or her enemy. He is calculating and it is obvious that he has his own demons to face and deal with. He wants Kennedy and expects her to do as she is told.

The psychological interplay between Kennedy and Sterling was breathtaking, their push and pull relationship was fascinating. The chemistry between them leaps off the pages.

This thrilling read was a compelling blend of mystery, deceit and sultry romance. Color me intrigued! As this is the first book in a series, it ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for more! I’m definitely hooked!

Many thanks to the author and Inkslinger PR for my copy of this book!
