Letters to Molly by Devney Perry #newrelease #bookreview

Molly Alcott didn’t expect to open her mailbox one summer morning and find an old letter stuffed between bills and a supermarket flyer. Penned in familiar handwriting, dated over fifteen years ago, the letter was written to Molly after her first date with the man she’ll never forget.

Week after week, new letters appear. Each marks an event in the history of their epic love affair. Each heals a wound. Each holds the confession of the man who still owns Molly’s heart.

The letters are full of promise, hope and love, but truth be told, Molly wishes she could unread them all.

Because the man who wrote these letters is not the one sending them.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Letters to Molly” is a wonderfully romantic story about true love and second chance. Second chance is one of my favorite romance trope.  It’s wonderful to see a couple who thought they’d never be together again find a way to set aside past hurts and doubts and build a life together again.

Devney Perry is one of my top go-to contemporary romance authors and this book is a perfect example of her beautiful, heartwarming and romantic writing style. As usual, she has delivered a fabulous story, the plot was not unique in itself but she made it quite unique.

Told from dual perspectives, this book focuses on Molly and Finn, two secondary characters from “The Birthday List”. They have been divorced for six years, sharing custody of their two kids and they have spent a long time getting to a place of friendship. They both have unfinished, very real feelings to work through. Old letters Finn had never had any intention of giving Molly will force them to deal with their old wounds and mistakes.

Letters to Molly is the story of a true love that has endured separation and misunderstanding. Reading this book was an emotional and angst filled journey. Molly and Finn are beautiful characters that are torn, hurt and full of regret. Why do we sometimes regret the choices we make? The obvious answer is that we sometimes make bad choices, with unforeseen negative consequences. Despite their bad choices and rash decisions, Molly and Finn are perfect for each other and they never stopped loving each other. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a read that is high on emotion and beautifully written.

Many thanks to the author for my copy of this book!

Edward Fasbender is a devil.

He’s my father’s business rival, a powerful, vicious man who takes what he wants and bows to no one. I only took the meeting because I was curious. I thought he was going to offer me a job.

But that’s not what he’s after at all. His proposal is much more intriguing, and I see an opportunity. An opportunity to turn the tables and bring down the devil.

I’ve gotten in trouble playing these games before. I know when the risk is too great, when the stakes are too high. I know how to be cold and strong-willed and destructive. I know how to withstand dominant men with arrogant charm and rugged features.

Yet I can’t resist taking on Edward.

And I can’t resist the pull he has on me.

Soon I’m not so sure which side of the battle I’m standing on–if I’m the warrior meant to slay,

Or the one who will be slain.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The storyline is full of mystery, deception and intensity, with a dark and sexy tone.

The main characters have a quite dysfunctional relationship that starts out rocky and toxic, but that was to be expected with Celia Warren, a character I loved to hate.  Edward Fasbender is ambitious, calculating, elusive and enigmatic, this character was confusing me from the start. Manipulative and ruthless, he exudes power, control and dominance. The objective of his relationship with Celia is obvious, but his real motives are mysterious. It is definitely incredibly difficult to discern whether one should be rooting for him or not which causes huge amount of internal conflict and angst.

Celia and Edward’s relationship feels like a negotiation, and Celia is clearly at a disadvantage. She is drawn to Edward like a moth to a flame and he likes to unsettle her. He pushes her buttons, she is alarmed by his cruelty.

This sexy story draws you in with its unpredictable, fast-paced and addictive plot. The leads may be messed up to the highest degree, but they’re compelling and human. The psychological interplay between them was fascinating.  Once again, Laurelin Paige’s riveting and edgy storytelling took my breath away! She knows how to bring a riveting story and intriguing characters to life. I will be anxiously waiting for the next installment in this intriguing story!

Many thanks to the author and Candi Kane PR for my copy of this book!

Sitting like this, on the arm of the chair, his back straight, we were practically the same height. It occurred to me that this was the closest we’d ever been to having equal footing, and somehow that made me both heady and encouraged.

I reached out to rub the collar of his shirt between my thumb and forefinger, my breath stuttering under the thick weight of apprehension, my mouth watering from how close I was to touching his skin. This close, I could smell the liquor on his breath and the musky scent of his cologne and the fainter scent underneath of pure man.

“Tell me your requests.” Was it my imagination or did his voice suddenly seem darker? Less steady?

“There’s only one.” I leaned in until my lips were near his ear. “I want to add sex to the deal.”

He made a sound low in his throat, half like a laugh, half like a moan. “What, now?”

He turned his face toward mine, and now our mouths were only inches away from touching. I could feel the warmth of his exhale on my skin, sending a trail of goosebumps down my arms.

“Now, sure.” Fuck, I was wet already. “But I meant in the marriage, too.”

His lips danced around mine. “You don’t know what you’re asking for. You want to be humiliated, degraded, and hurt?”

Because that was the goal of The Game.

But, also, YES!

Because, in that moment, there was nothing more I could imagine wanting than to be all those things, to be humiliated and degraded and hurt, by him. I wanted it so much I ached. Ached in places I hadn’t known could feel.

I reached my neck forward, pushing my mouth toward his.

Just when I thought the kiss was inevitable, he leaned back. “You couldn’t handle it.”

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There is something about Joanna Shupe’s writing that completely draws me in. In this instance, the chemistry and history between the main characters made this book a page-turner. The characters are likeable, confident, and enticing. They are opposites, and it was so much fun watching them grow closer and closer.

Frank Tripp is a celebrity and a self-made man. He started from humble beginnings but was able to make a name for himself through talent and determination. The attorney of prominent and wealthy clients, he has built a reputation on twisting the facts in favor of his clients. He is not proud of it, but it’s a lucrative business and he always gets what he wants. This character is shrewd, enigmatic and brutally honest.

Marion “Mamie” Greene is a Fifth avenue princess and she has always done as she pleases. Despite her parents’ expectations, she wants a marriage based on more than convenience and social expectations. She is sassy, witty and likeable.  She is such a complex, refreshing character, smart, generous and reckless. Mamie is Frank’s client daughter and he is trying to protect her, but she challenges him. He has been chasing her about New York looking out for her interests and safety. Against his better judgment, he wants to help her, even if it could mean the end of his social standing. He allows her to turn his life upside down and she helps him discover the need for generosity. They had perfect chemistry together and I loved their funny banter.

Overall, this was a great start to a new series, set in New-York in Gilded Age, with a swoon-worthy hero and a strong, feisty heroine. I enjoyed both the writing and the story. My one complaint is that such a lovely story fizzled out with a rather rushed ending. I would have liked to have seen more drama leading up to the final page, but I also loved how Mamie’s relationship with her family evolved over the course of the book.

Many thanks to the publisher and Pure Textuality PR for my copy of this book!

I will agree but only if you kiss me.

The thought came unbidden, a whisper from deep in her brain. Her gaze darted to his mouth, those full lips that flirted and cajoled every time they parted. What other feats could his mouth and lips perform, if needed?

Stop, Mamie. You have been listening to Florence too much these days.

She let her lids fall and tried to calm her racing heart. Chauncey. He was her future husband, the only man she should be lusting over. Desire for Frank Tripp was a complication she could not take on right now.

A finger swept under her chin to turn her head—and her eyes flew open. Frank was openly studying her, his stare hot and intense, with the gentle press of his finger holding her in place. The air in the carriage turned charged, an electricity that seemed to jump between them like alternating current. Her heart thumped in her chest, so loud she was certain he could hear it.

“Do we have a deal, Mamie?”

There was that deep grating tone again, the one she’d not heard him use before tonight. “Yes,” she heard herself whisper.

The side of his mouth hitched, a flare of male satisfaction lighting his gaze. He dropped his hold on her and before she could blink he rapped on the roof. “Here!”

The wheels slowed as the vehicle pulled over. She blinked in confusion. “What about seeing me home?”

“My driver will ensure you arrive safely. Remember our bargain. Good evening, Miss Greene.”

And he disappeared out the door and into the dark Manhattan night.

My Review

Rating :⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful, emotional and sweet, this extended epilogue was the icing on the cake. Everything that is Kyle and Juniper, and a perfect continuation to their story. It ends on a very good note, as they both have come to terms with their feelings.

I loved the softer side of Kyle, he has grown so much throughout the series. He has come a long way. For months, he has been patiently waiting for Juniper to live out her dreams. He is now everything you could want in a book boyfriend and they will finally be able to live together. He would move heaven and earth to make her happy. The way they truly belong together is absolute perfection.

Kyle is ashamed of his past behavior, of his indifference to the world. And while Juniper has learned to open up to him, she still has some doubts to overcome. She was such a real character, torn between what she wanted, what she thought she deserved and what her heart wanted.

This was a quick, enjoyable read. It completes Kyle and Juniper’s story. This series has been quite a ride and so worth reading.

“Now,” Kyle stated, standing up. “I have some very important business to do.” Bending over, I started stacking the plates to hide my disappointment that he would be working again.

Kyle snatched the dishes out of my hands and put them down. He grabbed my hand and began to lead me out of the patio…and into the living room. There, he pressed me flush against the wall to wall windows and stared into my eyes. “June-Bug,” he said, so softly that I thought it was my imagination. “My business is with you.”

“As I don’t work with you, I have no business with you.”

“I’m afraid that it’s a very serious matter…you will need to make it your business.”

“Serious or not, your fetish for bringing business into our bedroom needs to stop.”

“Have I told you how cute you look in that dress?”

I was wearing the new wrap dress I’d bought from Aurora James, during our New York trip. Decked in stripes of wine red, salmon, periwinkle, and navy blue, it had a cute bodice and a clingy skirt. Feeling sexy in the way the sheer chiffon clung to my figure, I eased away from him and lifted one corner of the belted wrap-around. “See. It’s a marvel of technology.”

Readily taking the belt, he tugged at it until the dress fell open. “Open sesame. That is my favorite dress of all.” Seeing my Agent Provocateur nude and sugar pink lingerie embroidered on an invisible net base, Kyle gasped. “Why, a present for me? You shouldn’t have.”

With a soft laugh, I dragged his neck closer to me, bringing his lips firmly onto mine. I kissed him with all the pent-up pain and uncertainty of the past week until it flooded with just longing and longing only. My hands went to the back of his neck, sliding up through his hair. I released his mouth and whispered against his ears. “I love you.”

He didn’t respond. Instead, he caught my mouth again, his hands slipping off my dress and, seizing my hips, he lifted me up until my legs were laced around his back. Carrying me, he walked around the living room and took me up the stairs, still kissing me somehow. I hissed and leaned back, letting the electricity between us rise and rise until it consumed us, taking us to places we’d traveled before, but could never tire of…

Smitten by the Brit (Sometimes in Love #2) by Melonie Johnson #bookreview @SMPRomance

Published May 28th 2019 by St. Martin’s Press

An English professor starts a new chapter in her life and is swept up in a Jane Austen-esque romance with a modern day duke

Bonnie Blythe has modeled her life after her favorite books. If only her fiancé would get on the same page and agree to a wedding date.

She’s not at all bitter that her best friend is getting married to a man she’s known for less than a year, and Bonnie most definitely isn’t thinking about the best man to be, Theo Wharton. It’s just whenever she talks with the blue-eyed Brit, sparks fly.

When a shocking reveal ends Bonnie’s engagement, she accepts a summer teaching job at Cambridge—only an hour away from Theo. Bonnie isn’t ready for a new relationship, but the chemistry between her and Theo is impossible to ignore. But Theo’s been hiding the truth about his identity; will Bonnie be able to weather the plot twist and grab the happily ever after of her dreams?

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This charming story has all the ingredients of a lighthearted romantic comedy and draws you in from the beginning. This is a wonderfully warm, witty and sparkling story with a colorful cast of characters that you can fall in love with.  It was great to join all the familiar characters from the Sometimes in Love series again and follow them while preparing themselves to take part in the wedding celebrations of Cassie and Logan.

This is a story about two people who have a lot in common but who are beleaguered by the doubts engendered by modern society and family obligations.

Bonnie has been trying very hard to forget Theo, but he embodies every Austen hero she has ever crushed on and she can’t stop thinking about her fairytale prince come to life. She is offered a new chance to go back to England to teach Shakespeare summer classes at Cambridge.

Theo has obligations and duties to fulfill. His family’s sprawling estate is on the verge of bankruptcy and his mother is determined to marry him to an heiress. In his family, marriage is a mere business arrangement.

I enjoyed reading about Theo and Bonnie’s personal doubts, struggles and how they decided to move on with their lives.  I liked seeing Bonnie give up some of her control and just operate on her emotions. She had a way of putting Theo at ease. They perfectly complemented each other. Bonnie and Theo’s development was perfect, as their relationship began to grow. It made the story more relatable and real.

All in all, I had a great time with this cute romance. It is book two in the Sometimes in Love series, but it can be read as a standalone or out of order.

Many thanks to the publisher for my copy of this book!

Written With Regret, the first in an all-new emotional duet from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez, is available now!

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.

However, I owed that innocent child more.

And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was pure awesomeness. From beginning to end, it captivated me. I found myself having to take huge deep breaths because the angst was just so intense at certain points. It’s such a soulful story, I felt every deep emotion. There was excitement, anxiety, happiness and the depths of despair.

This story spans over several years. I liked how it started off in the past and then dove into Caven and Hadley’s complicated relationship and connection. The author really makes us feel and live the depth of emotion and chemistry between the two. I was drawn into these characters instantly and found them to be unique and interesting. My heart broke for them over and over again.

Caven’s life changed when he became a single dad in an instant. He doesn’t know a thing about babies, but he wants to be a good father. Rosie is his life and he always makes sure she knows how loved she is, despite her mother’s absence.

Caven captured my heart, one of my favorite parts of this book is how the author dives so deep into his mind, exposing everything bare for us to see. The way his character transformed and transcended was beautiful. Hadley is a threat and he hates her at first. She wants to be involved in Rosie’s life and he is assuming the worst. He doesn’t trust her motives or her ability to care for a child.

Caven and Hadley have a connection, they have both experienced the worst darkness, they are survivors. The chemistry between them is really amazing and there are a lot of sweet moments with the adorable Rosie. All of it was just perfection. Hadley is exactly what Caven and Rosie needed, she is generous, kind and hilarious. She is a strong and pure heroine whose world has been torn apart by a mass murder.

Caven battles with his emotions to let go of his anger and anxiety, and the struggle is real. But Hadley always finds a way to touch him. After a short time, a forbidden romance blooms.

The sexual tension, emotional connection, the mystery, the tormented characters all add up to make this an absolutely brilliant book.

The plot twist was an interesting and surprising addition that led to one heck of a reveal. I always love when a story can throw a curve ball that I didn’t see coming but I’m very happy that wait for book two will soon be over!

Many thanks to the author and Social Butterfly PR for my advanced copy of this book.

Life had never been easy for me. Chaos had been following me like a dark cloud, looming and hovering, casting its shadow far and wide despite how bright the path in front of me should have appeared. After growing up the way I had, where happiness had been more of a privilege than a choice, I knew better than to believe that that moment would be anything other than fleeting.

And one second later, the universe proved me right.

I opened the door to see who had rung the bell—a cursory check revealed an empty hallway.

And that’s when I heard it: the sound that changed not only my entire life in the present, but my life for all future days to come.

At first, it was just a grunt, but as if that baby could feel my gaze, the minute my eyes made contact, it let out a sharp cry.

Confusion hit me like a lightning bolt, sending me back a step. I used the door frame for balance as I took in the yellow blanket with a hole only big enough to reveal a pale-pink face.

“What the fuck?” I breathed. Glancing around the hall, I waited for someone to jump out and start laughing. When no one spoke up to issue a punchline, I took a step closer and repeated, “What the fuck?”

I was utterly unable to process the absurdity in front of me.

Of course, I knew the facts.

It was a baby.

On my doorstep.

But the why in that equation was glaringly absent.

“Uhhh,” Ian drawled, peering over my shoulder. “Why is there a kid at your door?”

“I have no idea,” I replied, staring down at the squirming and now-screaming bundle. “It was just there when I opened the door.”

Ian shoved me to the side so he could stand beside me. “You’re shitting me, right?”

“Does it look like I’m shitting you?”

He looked from me to the baby, then back again. “How did it get there?”

We were two incredibly smart men who had created a technology empire out of nothing. But, clearly, a baby was too big for either of us to wrap our minds around.

I swept an arm out and pointed to the kid. “I have no clue, but I’m assuming it didn’t catch a cab.”

A light of understanding hit his eyes. He moved first, stepping over the crying baby and hurrying down the hall, searching around the corner near the elevator before returning alone.

The party continued behind me, but even with the door open, the loud chatter was no match for the ear-piecing cries happening in that hallway.

Veronica suddenly appeared beside me, her body going solid as she stammered out. “Is that…a baby?”

“Back up,” I urged, throwing my arm out to block her path as though the infant were going to suddenly morph into a rabid animal. And let’s be honest, I knew nothing about babies. Anything was possible.

Ian dropped to his knees, scooping up the wailing child. Meanwhile, I stood there like a gawking idiot, paralyzed by a weight I didn’t yet understand.

“Call the pol—” He stopped abruptly and reached into the top of the child’s blanket. “Oh shit,” he whispered, his wide, panic-filled eyes flashing to mine.

“What?” I asked, stepping toward him to get a better look at the kid. Only it wasn’t that tiny baby cradled in his arms that made my heart stop and bile rise in my throat.

There, in my best friend’s hand, was a folded piece of notebook paper that had been tucked into the child’s blanket. From the looks of it, the paper was unremarkable in every sense of the word. Blue lines, white spaces, hanging remnants from where it had been haphazardly ripped from a spiral bound notebook. Even the crease was crooked. But it was my name scrawled on the outside in messy, black ink that made it the most remarkable paper in existence.

I snatched it from his hand and, with blood roaring in my ears, opened it.

I’m sorry. I never meant for this to happen. This is our daughter Keira. I’ll love her forever. Take care of her the way I can’t.

Written with regret,

The hall began to spin, my head feeling like every ounce of blood had been drained from my body. The thundering in my ears faded and the loud chatter of my guests, who were suddenly aware that something was happening at the door, roared to life.

And then the chaos finally found me all over again—the past playing out in my head like my life flashing before my eyes.

I sucked in a deep breath and looked at the baby in his arms. The blanket had fallen off its head just enough to reveal a patch of fine hairs, more orange than its mother’s red.

“Call the police,” I declared, turning on a toe and walking back into my apartment, leaving Ian standing in the hall with Hadley’s child.

Shoving through the crowd of concerned onlookers, I headed straight to the bottles of liquor lining the counter. I didn’t bother with ice or even a glass. I threw back that bottle of vodka, hoping like hell the burn of the alcohol could numb the panic coursing through my veins.

Through it all, that baby never stopped crying.

My Review

Rating : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book is the conclusion of Shaelyn and Garrett’s love story that started in “On the Way Down”. Together, they had everything, but somehow it all went terribly wrong. Heartbreak might be the perfect reset button for their lives, a chance for a new beginning.

Shaelyn is struggling with feelings of guilt, she believes she is responsible for her baby’s death. She refuses Garrett’s help and won’t allow herself to feel their love for each other. She tries to escape her pain, lock her emotions up and evade reality. She has insisted on a divorce, but being away from Garrett is painful to her.

There is nothing Garrett wouldn’t do for Shaelyn, he is convinced that some things are just worth fighting for. But before anything can progress between them, the past has to be considered and then put away, focusing on the present and what they can mean to each other in the future. I was thrilled they found each other again. But I guess I would have liked it to have had more punch, this second part of their story felt so rushed. From the start, Garrett shined. He is sexy, considerate, kind and down to earth. He is devoted to Shaelyn and his love is so deep.

The Retake Duet is a romance that is beautiful, poignant and takes readers on an emotional journey. Garrett and Shaelyn’s road to happiness was not an easy one, but their love overcame tragedy to get a second chance.

Many thanks to the author and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for my copy of this book.

About the Author

USA Today Bestselling Author Ella Fox has learned a bunch of stuff along the way but the most important of all those things is that anything is possible when you try. In 2012 she took a big leap of faith and published her first book, Broken Hart. Since then she’s written fifteen more full-length books and several novellas– and every one is a reminder that you can live your dream as long as you work for it.

Ella’s favorite things are music, movies, traveling, The Foo Fighters and, of course, reading. This isn’t a surprise considering the fact that her mom is USA Today Bestselling Author Suzanne Halliday.
