Blurb

Leah Santelli always knew that Zach Harper, son of a rock legend and her best friend’s brother, was painfully out of reach. Then, on the night of her eighteenth birthday, Leah shocked herself by asking for–and receiving–the gift she wanted: one night of passion with Zach before he left town to pursue his rock star dreams. Now, years later, Zach is back in Cloud Bay to record his first solo album. His return could also be Leah’s big chance to step up her own music career. But getting the producing credit she needs means spending long hours with Zach in the recording studio…and falling back into the habit of longing for him, for better or worse.

Zach used to believe that a man must put his past behind him. But coming back home for Cloud Bay’s famed music festival has allowed him to finally make amends with his family and, much to his surprise, reunite with Leah. He might have left her once but now it seems he can’t stay away. Trouble is, even though the heat between them burns hotter than ever, Leah has old wounds in need of healing before she can give Zach a real chance. Can he find a way to convince her that they can make more than just great music together–and that she’s the one that he wants for all time?

My Review

Rating : 3.5 out of 5 Stars

Zach Harper has been trying to fight his way out from under his rock star father’s shadow. He has a burning desire to prove himself. His relationship with his sister Faith has been strained since he let her down during the rock festival she was organizing. Zach and Faith are unable to see eye to eye and often butt heads. Although they both know the downside of celebrity, Zach has chosen the spotlight. Leah Santelli is Faith Harper ’s best friend. Zach was her teenage crush, but they went their separate ways. Years later, Zach’s touring career is on hiatus and he is back in Cloud Bay. He is thinking of recording a solo album on the island, produced by Leah.

Although he is flawed and self-absorbed, something is slowly changing in Zach, he is determined to prove to the women in his life that he is willing to reform his ways. I loved watching that change occur. Even though he was cocky and egotistical at times, he was also very sweet and charming. Leah was lovely. She is a great heroine, she is not afraid to take chances in life and to stand up for herself. She and Zach were perfect together, they truly complement each other! They had a great connection, and there was some definite steaminess.

And yet there is a lot of residual anger and continued insecurity that keep them apart. Leah doesn’t want to mess up the job she’s been given and so she’s determined to keep her relationship with Zach strictly professional. She is convinced that trusting him would be stupid and has a whole list of reasons why they can’t be together.

It doesn’t take long for Leah to recognize her attraction to Zach. However, despite their growing closeness, Zach is a much slower learner. He wants the big dream, fame and glory. And yet, he doesn’t want to let Leah go, but is it enough to keep her in his life?

I enjoyed this book, it is well-paced and well-written. It’s an easy and entertaining story of second chance, and while it doesn’t pack the punch of some other rock star romance books out there, it kept me engaged enough to read it in one sitting. It is the third installment in the Cloud Bay series, but can be read as a standalone.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH Synopsis:

New York Times best selling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Original Heartbreakers tale, featuring a rough, tough bad boy brought to his knees by… a kindergarten teacher?

The king of one-night stands…
To inherit–and destroy–his father’s business at long last, Brock Hudson needs a temporary wife. The ruthless ex-military heartthrob has always avoided romantic entanglements. Women are sweet, but vengeance will be sweeter. Or so he thinks. Only one woman will do, but the vulnerable beauty is more than he bargained for—sexier, wittier, and utterly irresistible.

The queen of the deep freeze…
After an abusive first marriage, Lyndie Scott has sworn off relationships. But still she longs for a child of her own. Turns out, the brawler who used to frighten her with only a glance is the answer to her problems. She agrees to his proposal, with a caveat: spend every night in bed with her, then walk away for good when it’s time to divorce. Even if she’s pregnant.

A marriage of breathtaking inconvenience…
As the days pass too quickly and the nights heat up, Brock battles a sense of possession and obsession. Will the former commitment-phobe convince his wife they’re better off together, or will she pack her bags and go?

 My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Lyndie Scott is a resilient heroine with a traumatic past. She was abused by her father and her husband. Both are dead and she is determined to change her life for the better, with no one controlling her actions ever again. She is such an amazing character to read about. She is a mixture of strength, courage, innocence and vulnerability.

Brock Hudson is a rather dreamy but tortured hero, running away from the memories that haunt him. He comes from money, but grew up without love. Even though he is portrayed as a jaded scoundrel at the beginning of the story, he is a man of deep emotions who is kind, genuine, protective and caring in every way, both physical and emotional. At heart, he is a truly nice guy. I loved the way that Brock gave Lyndie time to heal emotionally and learn to trust him. His self-image is very negative, he feels unworthy of Lyndie. And yet, she finds it easy to like him. The romance between them was tender, sweet and sexy as hell.

The author has woven a wonderful cast of characters from the hero and heroine who are healed by true love, right down to the supporting characters who are believable and well-developed. Lyndie and Brock’s friends are featured in previous books in the Heartbreakers series.

This was an intense story of redemption and resilience, with passionate dialogues and a lot of sexiness. The marriage of convenience trope was predictable, but it didn’t deter me from enjoying the story. This book is told in dual POV and can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt

“I expect you to be amazing in bed,” she said. “Like, beyond my wildest expectations. You’ll need stamina to keep up with me.” Maybe. Probably not. “I want orgasms!”

He made a strangled sound. His pupils expanded, overshadowing all that luscious green. “I will give you orgasms. I will give you more orgasms than you can count.”

“Also,” she continued, as if she weren’t fighting a wave of lust right that second, “I firmly believe in the Ten Commitments.”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “I’m a little light-headed after all that orgasm talk, but I’m also listening. Do tell.”

“A boy shalt not lie to anyone, ever, not even to flatter, cheat with so much as a look, steal even when desperate, harm others in any way, or make excuses for bad behavior. He shalt compliment when merited, help when needed, treat others with kindness, always, consult his girl when making big decisions, and do his best, not just what’s good enough.”

His gaze searched her face. “The commitments are basic human decency for anyone, not just a potential temporary husband and possible sperm donor.  I accept.”

Surprising.  And welcome. “When our relationship ends,” she said, “you can go back to your man-whorish ways with my blessing.” A pang cut through her chest, and she swallowed a moan. Did the pang spring from jealousy? Or regret? No, no. Neither one. Probably came from indigestion. Because of the wine. “While we’re together, we’ll be having unprotected sex—if you agree to my terms—so I’ll need you healthy. Speaking of, you’ll have to get tested. I will too.”

“I won’t want a lifelong commitment because of a child,” he said, his tone soft.

Oh, the gall of this man! “I’m not hoping to trap you, Brock. Believe it or not, being married to you isn’t the bow on top of a gift but a burden to bear in order to get what I want.”

“Burden.” He traced his tongue over his teeth, the very picture of masculine pique. “Stop, please. Your flattery is going straight to my head.”

What, had she hurt is feelings? No way, no how. But…

Maybe? The thought disconcerted her, and her shoulders rolled in. “I’m sorry,” she said, and sighed. “I never meant… it’s just…” Another sigh. “Maybe this is a mistake.”

“Now wait just a second.” He swooped in, kneeling in front of her, placing his big, strong hands on her knees. “Getting naked with you does not strike me as a mistake.”

The warmth of his skin burned through her pajama pants, caressing her skin, and she gasped. Tingles erupted and spread, different parts of her reacting in different ways. Between her legs, liquid heat pooled. Her lower belly quivered. Her breasts ached.

Eyes ablaze, he said, “I want you, Lyndie.”

She gulped.  “You can have me.”

“If I give you a baby and walk away.”

“Yes.”

He stared at her for a long while before nodding.  “Very well.  I’ll get a temporary marriage and you’ll get a baby.”

SYNOPSIS:

Three estranged sisters struggle to sustain their late father’s failing hockey franchise in Kate Meader’s sizzling Chicago Rebels series. In this second entry, middle sister Isobel is at a crossroads in her personal and professional lives. But both are about to get a significant boost with the addition of a domineering Russian powerhouse to the Rebels….

Isobel Chase knows hockey. She played NCAA, won Olympic silver, and made it thirty-seven minutes into the new National Women’s Hockey League before an injury sidelined her dreams. Those who can’t, coach, and a position as a skating consultant to her late father’s hockey franchise, the Chicago Rebels, seems like a perfect fit. Until she’s assigned her first job: the man who skated into her heart as a teen and relieved her of her pesky virginity. These days, left-winger Vadim Petrov is known as the Czar of Pleasure, a magnet for puck bunnies and the tabloids alike. But back then… let’s just say his inability to sink the puck left Isobel frustratingly scoreless.

Vadim has a first name that means “ruler,” and it doesn’t stop at his birth certificate. He dominates on the ice, the practice rink, and in the backseat of a limo. But a knee injury has produced a bad year, and bad years in the NHL don’t go unrewarded. His penance? To be traded to a troubled team where his personal coach is Isobel Chase, the woman who drove him wild years ago when they were hormonal teens. But apparently the feeling was not entirely mutual.

That Vadim might have failed to give Isobel the pleasure that was her right is intolerable, and he plans to make it up to her—one bone-melting orgasm at a time. After all, no player can perfect his game without a helluva lot of practice…

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

This book was a playful, flirty, sweet sports romance, loaded with plenty of sexual tension. I just loved Isobel and Vadim’s interactions with each other. Isobel Chase is part owner of an NHL team. Her father was a hockey legend and left the team to his three daughters to jointly manage. Isobel had a strained relationship with her father. He expected great things from her, but she failed to make a hockey career after a bad injury forced her out of the game. Coaching is all she has left.

This time around, her job involves coaching the new player the team has recently traded in, Vadim Petrov, who also happens to be her teenage crush and a man who is as well known for his manwhoring ways as for his exploits on the ice. She has her work cut out for her, the sexy Russian is uncooperative and cocky. But they have to put aside their differences for the sake of the team.  They butt heads more than once, but when it’s clear that Isobel is taking her role seriously, Vadim starts to cut her some slack. And he isn’t one to back down from what he wants. He cares about Isobel and wants to reconnect with her. He is supportive, but his underhanded attempts to protect her were rather ill-advised.

Although the beginning and the last part of the story were really excellent, the middle was just ok. Ultimately, this was an enjoyable, funny and heartwarming story, filled with a perfect blend of emotions and sexy romance.

TheBritishKnight.Ebook

The British Knight by Louise Bay
Release Date: December 5th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough.

As soon as I touch down I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces and all the black cabs.

But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up.

On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.

Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.

As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear God Save the Queen.

I wasn’t looking for the fairytale but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.

A stand-alone, contemporary romance.

My Review

Rating : 5 out of 5 Stars

The heart-stopping romance between British Alexander Knightley and Violet King provides a blissful reading experience! The development of their relationship was perfectly paced with just the right build-up of tension and romance. I was hooked from their first meeting and I read this in one sitting. I enjoyed their interactions, their witty banter, the dynamics between them was so sweet and romantic! Frankly, I fell head over heels for these two endearing characters.

Violet King was betrayed by her college boyfriend and she has never been able to get over what he did to her. An escape to London seems to be the best opportunity to prove to herself that she can make a fresh start and get her life back on track. Working for an arrogant, short-tempered workaholic may not be easy in any sense, but it is definitely life changing. Alexander Knightley is a distinguished barrister, whose sole focus is his work. Violet has been hired as his administrative assistant and she needs to find a way of building trust with him. Her reluctant, uptight boss is a difficult person to win over. But despite his moody and mercurial temper, there are many likeable sides to him. And Violet handles him so well, she is efficient, bubbly and he likes her smart-mouth, she is never afraid of speaking her mind.

Alexander has his reasons for being standoffish and private. The world of the Bar is stressful and he has a lot to live up to, his late father was a star barrister. He is driven and focused to be the best at what he does but his dedication consumes him. And behind a façade of brilliant lawyer, he feels strongly about his failed marriage. Even though he is drawn to Violet, he is convinced that he can only bring her pain and disappointment. Their relationship is not fleeting or convenient. But sparks fly whenever they are together and they complement each other perfectly. She broadens his world and he is giving her renewed confidence in her future. They truly bring out the best in each other.

I highly recommend this book, it’s one of the best I have read all year. I loved the first person dual POV, these two charming, vibrant and completely opposite characters took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. This book can be read as a standalone, although characters from previous books do make cameo appearances.

Excerpt:

Alexander

My workout this morning had been punishing. The harder I worked, the harder I worked out. I was a big believer in that if I wasn’t physically fit, I couldn’t perform as well in my job. And I was willing to do whatever I had to do to be the best barrister I could be. As a result, I’d been up since five, worked out until six thirty, and then had a conference call with Dubai at seven. I hated days when I was late into the office, but this morning couldn’t be helped. My commute had been . . . unusual. The woman I’d knocked into while getting off the tube had been beautiful, and I couldn’t keep the image of her gazing up at me in the middle of Lincoln’s Inn Fields out of my brain. I needed to focus. And perhaps get laid when I got the time. But it wouldn’t be tonight. I’d be working. I had hundreds of witness statements to go through and my opening statement to draft.

In three days, I’d be in court, and that was my sole focus. There was no time to be wasted on fantasizing about women.

As I trawled through my emails, trying to pick out the important ones from the hundreds littering my inbox, someone knocked at my door. I resisted the temptation to growl. I hated being interrupted—I needed a sign for the door.

“Come in,” I barked.

The door swung open, and I could tell by the footsteps that the head clerk had swooped in. “Mr. Knightley.”

“Craig.” I didn’t take my focus off my laptop screen. Craig was an avuncular and charming man in his mid-fifties. He’d been in the business since he was fifteen and had clerked my father. If anyone could interrupt me, he could. And he knew it. Over the years, I’d tried to get him to call me Alex, but he insisted all the clerks and admin staff call the barristers by their surnames. The bar could be a very old-fashioned place.

“I want to introduce you to your new assistant, Violet King.”

I paused, my fingers hovering over my keyboard. I knew nothing of this and would never have agreed to it—I worked alone. Slowly, I turned to find Craig in front of my desk, his eyebrows raised in expectation.

“My what?” I asked. A figure moved in beside him and I slid my gaze to the right. I found myself staring straight at the beautiful woman who’d invaded my thoughts since I’d arrived in chambers. What was going on? I looked away from her, sure that Craig would see my attraction to her if my eyes lingered over her for more than a split second.

My Review

 Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Ethan Everest has movie star good looks, combined with boy-next-door charm … and he is a billionaire. This guy has it all, you say? Well, perhaps not. Happiness has eluded him. He owns a thriving business and has lots of money. Yet, he feels that his life is out of control and feels helpless to do anything about it.

When he meets Singer Davis at a party, he is attracted to her from the first. And yet he has pushed her into the friend-zone. Ethan is an intriguing character, larger than life and secretive, a wounded loner who has more enemies than friends.  At first, I found that he was a hard hero to warm up to, his apparent indecisiveness was kind of frustrating. Of course, Ethan has had some pretty though things happen as a result of believing in the wrong person, he doesn’t trust easily. His life is complicated, he is embroiled in a big corporate scandal, but he is a decent, honest guy and has no hidden agenda. Walking away from Singer seems to be the best way to protect her, and yet he realizes that he can’t live without her.

Singer is sweet and caring. She has big dreams of a perfect life and I admired her for her resilience. But she feels unsettled by Ethan’s mixed signals. She doesn’t want to get hurt by his inability to commit to a relationship.

These star-crossed lovers worked with each other to become a stronger unit. You could see their emotional walls being removed the more you read their story. Their romance is a slow build that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It’s a story of two people finding their way to each other. It has a perfect balance of emotion, angst, and a slow and deep burning love.

Excerpt

Slipping off my shoes, I dim the lights on the wall panel. I take my clothes off and hang them on a hook near the door before returning to the tub.
The tub, warm and inviting as I step in, eases my aching feet from my high heels and the tension in my shoulders. I pour some of the bubble suds and giggle. That was so cute and showed me a whole new side to Ethan—the at-home Texan who relates to his roots—instead of the strong, quieter, broodier man I see sometimes.
While the suds foam and the tub fills, I look out the window. The sky is clear up here. The buildings are far enough apart to avoid spying on neighbors. It’s like floating in heaven.
I hear his knock on the door, so I call, “Come in,” while making sure the bubbles cover all the important parts.
Ethan walks in with two glasses of champagne in one hand and the bottle in the other.
“You came prepared,” I note, leaning back on one side of the tub.
“I thought I might join you.” He waggles his eyebrows.
I giggle and reach for a glass. “Come on in,” I reply and wonder if he will really take me up on my dare.
He sets the bottle and his glass down on the side of the tub. His tie was removed before he came in and I notice his shoes are long gone, along with his jacket. When he starts on the buttons of his shirt, I sit up, scooping suds over me. “Wait, for real?”
“Yep. I think that tub’s big enough for the two of us.”
“But you said you don’t take baths.”
“I also said I’ve never used this one. Seems like an opportune time.”
“But I’m naked,” I say, worried about everything—his body naked next to mine, not shaving my legs before I went out tonight. My mind flickers through my flaws. Ugh. No. Just no. Not like that. That stuff should be shared in the dark of a bedroom under the influence of alcohol and desperate sex. We’re too sober for this. I’m too sober for this. What does he possibly see in me when he has women like Nicolina waiting?
He’s more than I’ve imagined, and in some senses, it scares me. He’s the sort of man women like Nicolina land. For once though, it was as if she saw me as competition. The feeling is exhilarating.
“Like I said, seems like an opportune time.”
His shirt is dropped, his undershirt following quickly behind. Good God Almighty. What does a guy who looks like that see in me? “I see you like to work out.” I clear my throat and want to bonk my head on the side of the tub for saying it out loud.
Chuckling, he says, “I have a gym down the hall. It’s how I relieve stress.”
“I thought that’s what sex was for.” I gasp and cover my mouth, wishing I could keep my crazy thoughts in my head where they belong instead of on my tongue. His eyes are heavy, a smirky smirk restraining a laugh. “God, you cannot let me talk when I’m nervous.”
“If this is what happens when you’re nervous, I’ll make you nervous more often.” His pants come down and my curiosity is answered. Tonight he’s in boxers. When he catches my eyes on his package, I’m thankful I’m wearing waterproof mascara because I immediately go underwater. Screw my makeup. It’s really the only way to keep my mouth in check at this point. I count to five and then pop back up. With my hands covering my boobs, I ask, “You’re really coming in?”
“Yes, scoot over.”
Good God Almighty.

This beautiful story of growing beyond your past and allowing yourself to be loved is smartly written and addicting. Alisha Rai is a new author to me and I’m so glad I discovered her. Her storytelling is compelling and pulled me in from the very first page, her characters are complex, full of apparent contradictions and interesting. This series features the intricate relationships between the members of two rival families. We discover the dark, twisted backstory of their business empire.

Sadia Ahmed is a widow, a single mother and a small business owner. Her husband had accumulated debts and she is fighting to avoid bankruptcy. Jackson Kane, Sadie’s brother-in-law, ignored his family for a decade. His past is painful and he has managed to build a new life for himself, far from them. Jackson has complicated feelings for Sadia, she is the one woman he could never have. It seemed that their timing was always off. But this time around, he wants to come back into her life and help her out. Even if Sadia is mad at him. Sadia and Jackson have a lot in common and there is so much chemistry between them.

Jackson has such a big heart, he is an adorable character. His generosity allowed his brother to manipulate him and he took responsibility for a crime he didn’t commit. He covered his brother’s mistakes and ran. More than a decade later, he is still terrified by the depth of his feelings for Sadia, but the time has come for him to accept them without guilt. He wants a new start, he wants to reconnect and make peace with his family. Sadia is conflicted about having a relationship with Jackson. Making up for lost time won’t be easy for either one. They have demons to overcome and their family dynamics are complicated. The scenes with their family give a lot of insight into how they fit in each other’s lives.

I really enjoyed this emotional and unique romance. This is a book about taking a chance on love and finally going after what you have always wanted. Jackson and Sadia’s romance was intense at times, with a very addictive storyline. It is the second installment in the Forbidden Hearts series but can be read as a standalone.

Chapter 1
Some women were seduced by a voice or a touch or a look. For Sadia Ahmed, it was hands.
Or, at least . . . His hands.
They were big, the perfect size to grasp her ass and grip her tight. Or to wrap around her neck while his thumbs settled into the hollow at the base of her throat. Or to cup her breast and lift it to his mouth.
Sadia picked up a glass and started drying it, her actions precise and unhurried. She was certain her face didn’t give away the fact she was fantasizing about sex with a patron sitting in the dive bar. Her libido might be hot, but her facade was stone- cold. She was a mother, a widow. To a lot of people, she’d discovered, those two titles took precedence over being a woman.
She didn’t mind letting people keep their illusions. It made her life easier and she wasn’t a disruptive person by nature. Someone else could shock the world, so long as she could dream about what she pleased.
Out of the corner of her eye, she contemplated what she could see of the anonymous man’s hands. He wore a baseball cap pulled low, and the bar was dark, so his body was all she had to moon over. His body was enough.
His fingers were long and elegant. They were big enough to fill her up with one, but she’d demand two. Hidden under the soft cotton of her shirt, her stomach clenched. He could play her like a violin, which was appropriate. He had the hands of an artist. Attached to a body that belonged to a fighter. Her gaze drifted over what she could see of the rest of him.  Wide chest, broad shoulders, thighs like tree trunks, biceps like whoa.
Unf.
Sadia carefully replaced the dry glass and picked up another one. Over the past week, she’d gotten really good at surreptitiously peeking at her mystery man during each of her shifts. On Monday she’d noticed him for the first time, sitting in a darkened booth in a far corner. On Wednesday he’d chosen a seat which was better lit, enough for her to grow obsessed with thoughts of his fingers on her and in her.
Though it had been busy earlier tonight, she’d consciously kept an eye out for him. Once the Thursday crowd had thinned out, her gaze had been drawn to him like a magnet to a metal. An- other dark booth, another dark cap pulled low to hide his face. Alone, nursing the ginger ale he’d ordered. His quiet stillness set him apart from the rowdy people who usually filled this bar.
“Hey, Sadia.”
Sadia started. She regrouped quickly and gave her boss a cheerful grin which hopefully masked the filthy thoughts in her head. “Hey, what’s up?” Michael had owned O’Killian’s for at least as long as she’d been working here, off and on since her twenty-first birthday.
“I wanted to thank you again for picking up so many shifts this week.”
She tossed her towel over her shoulder. “No problem. You know I’ll take the hours.” The tips were good. With a young son, she could always use extra money. She wanted to keep her bartending skills sharp.
Those were all the reasons she told people when they asked her why she was still tending bar when she had her hands full with the café she’d inherited from her husband. They weren’t false.
They weren’t completely true either, but the whole truth would cause more than a few raised eyebrows.
My husband had debts he didn’t tell me about. The tips give me grocery money.
I’m terrified the cafe will go bankrupt on my watch. I need a fallback career.
And there was one other good reason, but she really couldn’t share that one with anyone. That reason was her secret.

A heartwarming stand-alone novella from New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Hoyt!

Adam Rutledge, Viscount d’Arque, really rather loathes Christmas. The banal cheerfulness. The asinine party games. And, worst of all, the obligatory trip to the countryside. His grandmother, however, loves the holidayand Adam loves his grandmother, so he’ll brave the fiercest snowstorm to please her. But when their carriage wheel snaps, they’re forced to seek shelter at the home of the most maddening, infuriating, and utterly beguiling woman he’s ever met . . .

Sarah St. John really rather loathes rakes. The self-satisfied smirks. The sly predatory gazes. Oh, and the constant witty banter rife with double meaning. But in the spirit of the season, she’ll welcome this admittedly handsome viscount into her home. But as the snowstorm rages, the Yule log crackles, and the tension rises, Sarah and Adam find themselves locked in a fiery, passionate kiss. If love is the true meaning of Christmas, it’s the one gift this mismatched pair can’t wait to unwrap.

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

This novella is the lovely conclusion to an outstanding series, Maiden Lane. It features two endearing characters that definitely needed to get their own story: Sarah St. John, the prim and proper eldest sister in the St. John family, and Adam Rutledge, Viscount d’Arque, a notorious rake with a checkered past and a master of ambiguity. Both of them appeared in “Lord of Darkness” (Maiden Lane #5).

Viscount d’Arque hates Christmas and the compulsory journey to the countryside with his grandmother. This time around, their trip is interrupted by a wrecked carriage, and they are forced to seek shelter at the family home of Sarah St. John. Adam and Sarah have met before, but they are not on friendly terms. Even though Sarah has a deep distrust of rakes, she finds herself attracted to Adam. He was drawn to her from the first, but thinks her unattainable.

The unlikely romance between the dissolute lord and the demure spinster was sweet, tender and filled with lots of delightful banter. The sexual tension comes from the back and forth between them. They have a natural connection that can’t be denied. Their relationship unfolded at a nice pace, their dialogue was smart and sharp. Sarah and Adam’s happy ending makes for a wonderful holiday romance that will leave you with a warm glow!
