Blog Tour : Marriage of Inconvenience (Knitting in the City #7) by Penny Reid

Marriage of Inconvenience, an all new romantic comedy standalone in the USA Today bestselling, Knitting in the City Series by Penny Reid, is available NOW!

MOI copy

There are three things you need to know about Kat Tanner (aka Kathleen Tyson. . . and yes, she is *that* Kathleen Tyson): 1) She’s determined to make good decisions, 2) She must get married ASAP, and 3) She knows how to knit.

Being a billionaire heiress isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. In fact, it sucks. Determined to live a quiet life, Kat Tanner changed her identity years ago and eschewed her family’s legacy. But now, Kat’s silver spoon past has finally caught up with her, and so have her youthful mistakes. To avoid imminent disaster, she must marry immediately; it is essential that the person she chooses have no romantic feelings for her whatsoever and be completely trustworthy.

Fortunately, she knows exactly who to ask. Dan O’Malley checks all the boxes: single, romantically indifferent to her, completely trustworthy. Sure, she might have a wee little crush on Dan the Security Man, but with clear rules, expectations, and a legally binding contract, Kat is certain she can make it through this debacle with her sanity—and heart—all in one piece.

Except, what happens when Dan O’Malley isn’t as indifferent—or as trustworthy—as she thought?

My Review

Rating : 5 out of 5 Stars

This book was fantastic, Penny Reid had me enthralled from the beginning to the end. For being such a long book, I enjoyed every bit of the story and I never wanted it to end! The fluidity and the pace of the story were just perfect. This book is witty, intelligent, riveting and just fun to read. Kat and Dan are enticing characters, easy to relate to. From the start, I felt a true connection between them. Their romance is tender and the chemistry between them is sizzling. I loved that their story was a slow burn, nothing felt rushed or implausible.

Kat is an endearing heroine. Heiress to the second largest pharmaceutical company in the world, she has experienced the hard way that money doesn’t equal happiness. Her uber-wealthy family is dysfunctional and disinterested in her, no one has ever shielded her from hardship. Kat experiences difficulty accepting her emotions. She is used to hold herself back, hiding behind routine and orderliness. She is socially awkward, and her honesty is absolutely endearing and just hilarious at times. She tried to escape her heiress life, but she has finally accepted her fate and is preparing herself for her future role. Her cousin is a powerful and devious enemy, who has more than one sneaky trick up his sleeves to frame her and take her place at the head of the company.

Dan is the perfect book boyfriend, smart, caring, funny, thoughtful, not to mention incredibly hot. He accepts to marry Kat so that her cousin can’t commit her to a mental hospital. He is selfless, willing to rearrange his life to protect Kat.

Dan and Kat were distant friends. The sparks flew between them when they first met, but they never acted on their feelings due to a misunderstanding. When they finally get the opportunity to know each other better, everything between them is natural and easy. And yet, expressing boundaries and desires is incredibly complicated for both of them. There was plenty of sexual tension, as they learn to navigate and balance their obvious love for each other. I loved watching the development of their relationship and the suspense kept me on my toes.

I had the best time reading this book! It has Penny Reid trademark humor, Kat and Dan had me giggling and smiling. I adored these characters! The interactions with the secondary characters were fantastic. There were a lot of swoon inducing moments. I love Penny Reid’s writing style and will definitely look forward to her next book!

Staring at his chin, because I couldn’t quite lift my eyes any higher, I cleared my throat. “Should we get ready for bed?”

“Sure,” he said, his voice a rumble. Dan’s eyes were on me, I felt the weight of them.

My hands came to the hem of my skirt and I hesitated, feeling winded for some reason. Sneaking a glance at him, I immediately wished I hadn’t. His gaze was watchful, but it was also unmistakably hot in a way that seemed at once both avaricious and accusatory. The vice tightened around my lungs.

Kiss him! Just freaking kiss him! You want numbered steps? Fine. You kiss him- check. He kisses you back- check. Then you make out- check. Check the boxes.

I licked my lips, balling my hands into fists at my sides again, preparing to follow my hasty list.

But then he said, “Undress me.”

My breath caught. On instinct, my eyes lifted and collided with his in much the same way our bodies had collided at the top of the stairs just moments ago. Jarring. Startling. Thrilling. This time I couldn’t look away because this time I was falling. He made no move to catch me.

“What? What did you say?”

His eyes narrowed, which served only to increase the intensity of his gaze from smolder to inferno. “Take my clothes off.”

I stared at him, licking my lips again, and shaking my head. That wasn’t one of my steps.

Lifting my chin, I moved to kiss him. He leaned to the side, evading me even as his eyes dropped to my mouth.

“Take off my shirt and I’ll give you a kiss.” He’d used his naughty-secret voice.

An explosion of heat erupted in my belly, and now I was hot all over. I couldn’t figure out if the heat was embarrassment or arousal or both.

He didn’t give me a chance to figure it out. His hands lifted and he undid his cuffs; then they moved to the top button of his shirt.

“You better take over,” he said darkly, “or else you’re not getting that kiss.”

My Review

Rating : 5+ out of 5 Stars

This book blew me away!  Gripping, riveting, heart wrenching, heartwarming…  Once in a while, you come across a truly incredible book, Long Shot was that book for me. Not that I was surprised because this is Kennedy Ryan we are talking about. I have loved each and every book I have read by her, but this one may be her best book yet. I was truly amazed by the storyline, it was definitely not what I expected, and I loved that!

August and Iris are unforgettable characters, I was consumed by their story and couldn’t get enough of it. It’s deeply emotional, engrossing and dark at times, it’s not the story of an easy love. There are some pretty devastating parts that will bring a few tears to your eyes.

August West is a bright and outgoing pro ball player, with an amazing future ahead of him. He is incredibly talented, but he wants to be more than just a player. Success and fame can be fleeting and he wants more out of life. He knows Iris is the perfect girl for him, she is authentic, funny and smart. But he can’t have her, she is someone else’s girlfriend. August is a wonderful character, genuine, strong and yet so vulnerable. I admit I fell head over heels for this hero, he was pretty much perfect and made me swoon.

Iris, my heart shattered for her, she is the innocent victim of a violent narcissist, trapped in an abusive relationship. Her story of resilience and hope takes place over several years. Her connection with August is instant, they are kindred spirits.  He can’t live without her in his life just as much as she wants to be with him. Iris is a character you become very quickly emotionally invested in.

Iris and August’s story of hope and unconditional love deals with some intense issues but it is so worth the emotional journey it takes you on. It’s an epic must-read that I can’t recommend enough!

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Lady in Waiting is the first installment in Marie Tremayne’s debut series “Reluctant Brides”. It was a delightful and sweet read with well-developed characters that make the book.

William, Lord Ashworth, has suffered a terrible loss that has changed the course of his life. Traumatized and injured, he has shut himself away in his country estate, Lawton Park.

Clara Mayfield is heiress to a banking fortune, but her family is snubbed by the ton and her parents intend to force her into a loveless arranged marriage. Her fiancé is abusive and Clara decides to run away. She seeks safety by hiding as a servant. She is hired as housemaid at Lawton Park under a false identity.

I loved Clara, she has a very resilient spirit, she is pragmatic, industrious and willing to work hard, winning the affection of everyone at the estate. And yet, William and Clara’s relationship starts out antagonistic, William seems to take an instant dislike to her, he is suspicious. Yet, as they get to know each other, he can’t help but trust and admire her. I loved that their romance was a slow burn and their relationship grew from chapter to chapter.

It took me a while to warm to William. At first, he came across as stiff and a stickler for rules and upstairs/downstairs etiquette. His vulnerability is unsettling his mind, but he can’t deny the intense emotions he feels for Clara.  For her sake, he is willing to break with tradition and social boundaries. She is able to reach the man underneath the polished aristocrat and their chemistry was palpable.

Marie Tremayne has woven a story that incorporates a realistic character growth that totally won me over. Her characters were beautifully drawn. I loved that they didn’t act hastily on their attraction to each other. There were many ups and downs between them, they both had their own trials to deal with. This character-driven historical romance was an enjoyable read and I’ll definitely follow this author in the future.

“My lord, are you well?”

Ashworth’s hand slowly dropped from the doorknob and he stared openly at her, his expression unreadable. Clara guessed it could have been weeks or months since he’d had a loved one or a friend ask him that question.

He cocked his head to the side, eyeing her curiously. “Do I appear to be unwell?”

Clara bit her lip. Of course, he appeared very well indeed. She couldn’t stop her eyes from scanning over him and felt herself flush hotly in response.

“Yes…no…that is, you look distressed. As if something is wrong.”

Ashworth stepped forward. “I am in charge of an earldom. There could be many things wrong.” He paused. “And this concerns you because…?”

“Well, I am aware it shouldn’t concern me,” she answered nervously. “But—I find it does.”

He mulled this over in silence as his restless gaze roamed over her, starting at her cap, alighting on her face, moving down the dark rose-colored fabric of her morning dress, skimming over her apron, and landing on her sturdy black shoes. His eyes snapped back up to hold hers in their sway.

“I appreciate your concern, but rest assured, it is misplaced.” The earl took another step in her direction. “However, since we’re on the subject of appearances, I would tell you that you seem tired today.” The corner of his mouth lifted in the barest hint of a smile. “Is there something amiss?”

Clara’s lips parted in surprise. “That was neatly done, my lord. You managed to avoid answering my question while directing one at me instead.” She hesitated. “Well if you must know, I am tired. My room is like an icebox at night.”

He blinked. This time he really did look concerned. “Is it?”

“Yes,” she replied. “But that’s really beside the point. You are under no obligation to confide in me, I only thought perhaps—”

“And I told you,” he said, cutting her off, “that I appreciate the concern. But you and I both know it’s against all proprieties to discuss personal matters—”

“Have you always been so set on adhering to the proprieties, my lord?”

The earl straightened, eyes widening in disbelief, and she immediately knew the conversation had been taken too far.

Clara lowered her head and tried to avoid him, skirting around the edge of the room toward the door. “Forgive my intrusion. It was wrong of me to insert myself where I do not belong.”

She passed Ashworth and his hand shot out, securing her wrist in his hold before she could flee.

“Was that an insult? Or simply an observation?” he inquired.

She swallowed, weighing her response with caution. “No, my lord. On the contrary, I think it an admirable quality in a peer to be willing to break with tradition.” Ashworth’s gaze drifted from her face to the place where his fingers were wrapped around her arm. After a moment, he gently released her. Disappointment flooded through her as the heat of his hand evaporated off her skin.

Stepping backward, he spread his arms wide in mock invitation.

“Since we are ignoring decorum, is there anything else you wish to ask?” Then he added wisely, “I may or may not choose to answer.”

She considered this in silence, her hand moving to cover the wrist that still tingled from his touch. This game had already started. Why stop now?

“Yes, my lord. There is one thing.” Clara took a deep breath. “Has your steward much experience with flooded farmlands?”

“Pardon me?” His voice was low. Possibly annoyed.

“My lord, your land steward is another servant, regardless of his accomplishments. I’d wager your tenants would value a visit from you, the Earl of Ashworth, along with the opportunity to discuss their thoughts on resolving the flooding.”

She had managed to say the words, but she had also begun to tremble uncontrollably. She clenched her hands into fists and held them tightly at her sides to conceal her shaking.

Lord Ashworth stood stock still. He simply stared at her as if she had spontaneously recited the Russian alphabet. When he did speak, he sounded calm, but his voice was hoarse.

“What do you know of flooded farmlands, Helen?”

A trickle of sweat raced down her back.

Ashworth stepped closer to her, his face expectant. Clara’s breath came in gulps as she attempted to maintain her composure. “I–my father had experience in such matters.”

“Your father?” he asked, intrigued.

“Yes, my lord,” she responded hastily, hoping to change the subject. “I’ve no wish to interfere, but I was thinking a meeting might help connect you more closely to your townsfolk.”

The earl’s eyebrows arched. “Why do you take such an interest in my affairs?”

“I’m not. I don’t,” she stammered. “I’m only thinking as a commoner. Speaking as a commoner…”

“Speaking as a commoner,” he interrupted thoughtfully, taking another step forward. “A commoner would know when to hold her tongue, and yet you, somehow, do not.” Another step. The alarm bells she had chosen to ignore earlier were now clanging again, more insistently.

His words were true. She was being Clara Mayfield right now, and she needed to correct her course immediately. Before he was close enough to touch her.

“Of course, you are right, my lord,” she forced out, hoping to put an end to the conversation. “I only meant to help. I can see now that I’ve overstepped my bounds.”

A huff of amusement escaped him. “A habit of yours.” Then softly, “And how can you possibly help me?”

The earl took one last step in her direction, and it wasn’t until Clara felt her back collide with the far wall that she realized she had also been retreating. He was only inches away, so close she could feel the heat radiating off his body. Being at eye level with his broad chest, he suddenly seemed far too large, far too close.

Ashworth had an incomparable sensual grace, unmatched by any man she’d ever seen. Without thinking, Clara reached out and placed her fingertips on his chest—whether a defensive reflex or an invitation, she couldn’t be sure. At her touch, he tensed and closed his eyes, a small gasp hissing through his teeth.

Any lingering doubts melted away as she witnessed his reaction. He wanted her hands on him. She flattened her palms across the lawn of his shirt, feeling the contrast of hard muscle to soft fabric.

Clara had always believed her inexperience had caused her to be shy with men, but now it was apparent part of the problem had been that she had not yet been with the right man. Here, with Ashworth, fire flowed through her veins as she allowed her hands to roam. His clenched jaw and fists were an indication of resistance, but his refusal to halt her caresses challenged her to continue.

What could she possibly do to help him?

He had asked, and now she burned to find out.

Her fingers traced along the length of his blue satin cravat, and he made a sound low in his throat.

The sound raced through Clara like wildfire. Disregarding everything…the woman she was, and the woman she was pretending to be…she rose high up on her tiptoes and brushed her lips against his.

Blog Tour : Two Wedding Crashers (Dating by Numbers #2) by Meghan Quinn

I don’t know what love is anymore.

Well, that’s not entirely true, but I’m going to tell you a little secret: I’ve lost the spark.

You know the kind of spark I’m talking about?

Where butterflies take flight in your stomach from two hands innocently colliding. Or catching your breath when you first meet someone attractive. Yeah, that spark.

Except I haven’t felt that feeling in forever; there is nothing left inside of me.

Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem–but I’m a writer on a serious deadline, and my editor is breathing down my neck for a romantic, Nicholas Sparks type love story. No pressure, right?

That’s how I find myself flying across the country to crash a wedding in the name of research, dress and heels stuffed into my small suitcase.

It should be the easiest book research ever. Drinking some free champagne, basking in the love of two strangers, and tapping into my romantic side. That will be a breeze. I’m a pro. I can handle this.

Until I mistakenly end up in the wrong hotel room, naked as the day I was born, with the sexiest human I have ever met staring me down, wondering what I’m doing taking a shower in his bathroom. I don’t think calling it research will get me out of this pickle.

My Review

 Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

This book was a fun, lighthearted read with very engaging characters. I love the author’s writing style, it’s witty, smooth and catchy. The dialogue and chemistry between Rylee and Beck is really the best part of the book and what makes it special. They both need a vacation and crashing a wedding in the Florida Keys seems to be the perfect opportunity to relax and live in the moment.

We met Beck Wilder in the first book in the series “Three Blind Dates”.  He gives off an irresistible bad boy vibe. He has a strong, easygoing personality and his sadness made me root for him. Rylee is a romance writer, but she is definitely not living in a happy romantic bubble. She has writer’s block and needs a distraction to reawaken her creativity.

Rylee and Beck decide to spend three vacation days together, where they find that they have an irresistible attraction to each other. I enjoyed reading their story, they shared sizzling scenes filled with chemistry and swoon. There was a lot of sexual tension and fun interludes, as the attraction between them just had to explode at some point. And yet, Rylee is holding back, she never really lets loose at first. Neither one of them is ready to share some darker parts of their life.

What I loved about this story was that it was perfectly paced, there was no rush in bringing Beck and Rylee together. It was so sweet watching them realize the feelings they were beginning to have for the other.  Rylee giving in to the fact that Beck might actually be her Mr. Right and Beck realizing he might be ready to move on from past mistakes and live life to the fullest.

This was such a fun ride and I can’t wait for more! I love this series and definitely recommend it!

Chills scream their way down my arms and legs, my nipples pucker, and just like that, with one word, all humor vanishes from our little conversation and awareness of this all-consuming man wrapped around me hits me hard.

Gathering myself, I say, “Tell me something Chris and Justine know about you.”

“Hmm.” His thumbs hook under the waistband of my shorts, playing with the lower part of my hipbones. His touch spurs on my pelvis, needing to rock, begging for him to go lower. My toes curl in my sandals and my back slightly arches, reaching for more. “Something they know about me.”

His mouth doesn’t stray from its position against my ear, and his hips start to slowly move underneath me, his legs tangling with mine. Involuntarily, one of my hands hooks the back of his neck as I hold on tightly to him, feeling like I need support from the onslaught of sensation I’m feeling.

I hear him say something, but it doesn’t register in my brain, which has turned to mush as his thumbs stray from my hipbones to right above my pubic bone.

There is no denying how turned on I am, how wet I am from his mere touch, how much—despite my reservations—I want this man.

With each stroke, my head turns farther and farther to the side until our noses are touching, Beck’s head bends forward to meet me halfway. My eyes flutter shut for a brief moment before I open them and am captured by those flecks of green and gold.

The air stills around us, our breath mixing, swirling between us, our lips so close.

One swipe of this thumb.

Another one.

I can’t breathe.

I can’t focus.

Another swipe, my head leans even closer, my tongue wetting my lips.

One more swipe . . .

My heart hammers in my chest, my skin prickling with awareness.

Beck brings his mouth even closer, only a whisper away now, and he waits.

Holding still.

His breathing feeling erratic beneath me.

And I’m gone.

I bring my mouth to his, slowly parting my lips ever so slightly, just enough to maneuver my mouth across his.

A low, provocative moan escapes Beck as one of his hands snags the back of my head and holds me in place, almost as if he lets go, I’ll disappear.

Needing more, I shift on his lap so I’m straddling him once again, my hands on his bare chest, feeling the powerful sinew that holds him together.

Our lips press and mold, mingling, taking, begging . . .

Beck’s tongue runs against my bottom lip, eliciting a moan from deep within me, lighting a fire so hot, so wild, my hands start to travel up his neck to his cheeks where I grip him, positioning his head so when I open my mouth, I can expertly dive my tongue onto his.

He groans, his lap shifting against mine now, his hard-on pressing against my wet and throbbing center. I match his rocking, using my position on his lap to take advantage of his length I can feel through his board shorts.

This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen, but God, am I happy it has. Maybe I really should live in the moment, maybe I should take advantage of the opportunity, maybe I should…

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

So many feels! JL Berg stole my heart with this book! This beautiful story is raw, honest, emotional and uplifting. The characters are the highlight of this book, they have been going through a lot. Their story felt raw and deeply moving. Both Cora and Dean are individuals with pasts that have scarred them. They are very good at hiding the struggles they face, they are vulnerable and yet so strong.

Cora is running from her past, she wants to start a new life as the only nurse on a picturesque and isolated island. She is used to stressful situations and she likes being far away from everything. Cora has lived in a land of make believe, to hide the painful reality of her conjugal life and protect her daughter and her parents. She is determined to fight back and make it on her own, with her extremely curious and observant daughter.

Dean survived a horrific accident. His family and friends have been incredibly supportive but for three years he has put life on hold, he is a broken man. Sparks fly between these two, they feel a connection that is beyond friendship. I liked that they both recognized something in one another that they could trust. Both characters are bruised and involved in their mutual healing and the growth that comes with it. The strength of these characters is definitely what stands out, they both have more to give and more to love.

This story of second chance was a true winner for me. The author writes from the heart, her words are strong, eloquent, her prose is beautiful and poignant. Her characters are so engaging, I just wanted to hug them! She definitely tugged at my heartstrings with this book.

By the time I arrived at the inn for dinner, I was a goddamn mess. Sweat was running down my back from the heat, even after changing my shirt twice. I’d changed my mind three times on whether to bring flowers for Cora, doubling back to the house at the last minute to grab them after I firmly decided to leave them at home.

When I finally arrived, I was a solid twenty minutes late and probably looked like a psychopath from all the sweat and the mangled flowers in my hand.

But all of this was forgotten the moment the door opened, and Cora greeted me.

“Jesus,” I cursed, giving her a once-over before she even had the chance to say hi. “You look insane.”

“Insane is good?” she asked, pink staining her cheeks.

I’d never seen her in anything beyond scrubs and shorts. Granted, this woman could wear a paper bag and be the hottest woman in the room. Tonight though, she’d dressed up, wearing a short, strappy number with tiny pink flowers dotting the fabric.

“Insane is really good,” I clarified.

Meet J. L. Berg:

I’m a California native, who lives in the South – Virginia to be exact. I still prefer sushi to fried chicken, avocados to okra, and I absolutely loathe humidity. I do love watching the seasons change though. My husband and I have been here for over a decade, and I still get giddy like a school girl every time it snows. It’s magical!

I’m married to my high school sweetheart, and we’ve been blessed with two beautiful daughters and two rescue pups I like to call my “coworkers”. I’m obsessed with chocolate, minions, anything Harry Potter and I love to watch re-runs of Friends and Gilmore Girls!

Title: Craft

Series: The Gibson Boys #2

Author: Adriana Locke

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Release Date: March 14, 2018

Craft Ebook CoverThey’re not quite enemies. Not really friends. More like frustrated balls of sexual tension and neither will give in.

Lance Gibson drives Mariah Malarkey absolutely crazy. He uses her office like a phone booth, takes cupcakes from the corner of her desk like she baked them just for him. She didn’t. Maybe she knew the history teacher happened to love peanut butter icing, but that was purely a coincidence. All sixteen times.

Mariah has a way of getting under Lance’s skin too. She calls him out on his crap, spoils him even if inadvertently, and seeing the librarian in skirts drives him wild. She won’t give in. It’s for the best, really, considering there’s no way he could lie to a woman like that and he’s not about to tell her the truth about himself. Not in a million years.

These two don’t hate each other. They don’t really like each other. But for this to be a friends-to-lovers story, they have to start somewhere, right?

Note: This can be read as a standalone novel.

My Review

 Rating : 4.5 out of 5 Stars

I loved this sweet and entertaining story of two almost friends who become lovers. The author instantly sucked me in with witty, good-hearted banter and swoony moments that left me smiling. The hero, Lance Gibson, is an absolute sweetheart. He is a natural-born charmer, generous, kind and thoughtful. Definitely a great guy with a big heart, devoted to his job of history teacher.  And yet, his relationship with Mariah Malarkey is complicated, especially as she starts to fall for him, despite her best efforts not to. They are co-workers, Mariah being the high school librarian.

The banter between them was a refreshing part of the book.  And what started out as something fun morphed into something real. They are attracted to each other, but both have reasons to dismiss their feelings. Mariah is guarded, her difficult relationship with her mother has had a negative effect on her self-esteem. Her childhood wasn’t a happy one, she always felt second best. Mariah wants a family of her own and what she didn’t have growing up, unconditional affection and support. I loved that she refuses to compromise on what really matters to her. Even if they enjoy being together, it seems that they want different things.

Lance is convinced he can’t give Mariah what she needs in a relationship. He feels imperfect and doesn’t want to hurt her. I loved that he went through a journey of self-discovery, reflecting on what he really needs to be happy.

Both Lance and Mariah are relatable and likeable characters, I was rooting for them from the start. I liked the build-up of their romantic relationship, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable and everything about them worked.

The story includes the other members of the Gibson family, we get to see their love for each other, they are such an interesting and genuine bunch of characters with great family dynamics. Adriana Locke writes characters you want to sit down and spend some time with! I’m now  eagerly anticipating Machlan’s story. This book is the second in the Gibson Boys series, but can be read as a standalone.
