DUKE OF SIN by Elizabeth Hoyt (May 31, 2016; Grand Central Publishing Mass Market; The Maiden Lane Series #10)

A MAN OF SIN

Devastatingly handsome. Vain. Unscrupulous. Valentine Napier, the Duke of Montgomery, is the man London whispers about in boudoirs and back alleys. A notorious rake and blackmailer, Montgomery has returned from exile, intent on seeking revenge on those who have wronged him. But what he finds in his own bedroom may lay waste to all his plans.

A WOMAN OF HONOR

Born a bastard, housekeeper Bridget Crumb is clever, bold, and fiercely loyal. When her aristocratic mother becomes the target of extortion, Bridget joins the Duke of Montgomery’s household to search for the incriminating evidence-and uncovers something far more dangerous.

A SECRET THAT THREATENS TO DESTROY THEM BOTH

Astonished by the deceptively prim-and surprisingly witty-domestic spy in his chambers, Montgomery is intrigued. And try as she might, Bridget can’t resist the slyly charming duke. Now as the two begin their treacherous game of cat and mouse, they soon realize that they both have secrets-and neither may be as nefarious-or as innocent-as they appear . . .

Excerpt

“I was told you had need of me, Your Grace,” she reminded him, folding her hands at her waist to hide the trembling that had begun again. She’d been in demand before this position. Duchesses and lionesses of society had wanted her.

“So practical,” he mused, tilting his golden head back to gaze, presumably, at the gaudy sky-blue velvet canopy of his bed. She’d always thought it rather vulgar, actually. “I suppose that would be considered a good thing in a housekeeper.”

“It’s generally considered so, Your Grace.”

“And yet, I find it somewhat…”—he raised his naked arm straight up above his head and twirled his hand as he thought—“irksome.”

“I am sorry, Your Grace,” Bridget said as pleasantly as she could, which, sadly, was not very.

“Oh, don’t be,” the duke murmured silkily. “One can’t help one’s nature, no matter how irritating it is to others.”

His azure eyes suddenly dropped to pin her, hard and merciless, and she lost her breath as she fell into his predator’s stare. It was like looking into the eyes of something inhuman, almost otherworldly. Her chest ached as she stared at him, the air still locked within her, but at the same time the place between her legs ached as well.

Then she inhaled, filling her lungs with sweet air, as he watched her still, his eyes half-lidded, and she felt an odd exhilaration, as if a gauntlet had been thrown down. As if they were adversaries, equal on the field.

Which was completely ridiculous.

Possibly she shouldn’t have indulged in that third cup of tea this morning.

“I wonder whom you work for, Mrs. Crumb?” he whispered.

“Why, for you, Your Grace,” she replied, holding his gaze.

He snorted.

She felt a bead of perspiration trail down her spine.

He strode, nude, to his desk, and, bending over it, afforded her a quite scandalous view of his muscular bottom. He seemed to have a dark mark of some kind on the left cheek. Good God, it looked like a tattoo. What—? “Why, Mrs. Crumb,” he drawled, and she snapped her gaze belatedly up to find that he’d turned back to her—damn it! “Were you ogling my arse?”

She opened her mouth and then wasn’t sure, exactly, what to say. Was he about to dismiss her or not? “I…I—”

“Ye-es?” He took one long stride toward her.

She was suddenly, overwhelmingly aware of what she’d until now successfully ignored: He. Was. Nude.

His shoulders were wide, his chest highlighted by pale-pink nipples drawn tight, with but a few curling golden hairs between. His torso narrowed in a perfect V to a slim waist and a shallow belly button. A thin line of slightly darker hair led to his genitals.

During his supposed absence Bridget had had plenty of time to study the life-size nude portrait of the duke hanging next to his bed. She’d long thought the dimensions of his manhood exaggerated.

They were not.

She hastily glanced up to find him standing far too close to her, a wicked smile playing about his mouth.

“Oh, Mrs. Crumb, such a look,” he murmured, his voice a deep purr, his bare chest brushing against her snowy white apron. “Why, I don’t know whether to guard my bollocks…”—his gaze dropped to her mouth—“or to kiss you.”

Rating : 4.5 out of 5 Stars

“He was the Duke of Montgomery. He’d successfully blackmailed the king. He was about to blackmail himself a wife. No one loved him. And that was the way he liked it.”

With her Maiden Lane Series, set in Georgian London, Elizabeth Hoyt has created unforgettable characters and beautiful stories. I have read most of her books and enjoyed her smooth, elegant and sensual writing style. I confess I have a thing for Ms. Hoyt’s bad boys and Valentine Napier, the enigmatic Duke of Montgomery and hero of this story, is definitely one of them.

After his banishment to the Continent for kidnapping the Duke of Wakefield’s sister, Valentine Napier is back in town. In reality, he never left London and has been in hiding in the walls of his own house for months! As it happens, the walls were an excellent site to spy on his new housekeeper, Bridget Crumb, who obviously has something to hide.

Val and Bridget start an intriguing cat and mouse game. Bridget has her own agenda, she wants to help her birth mother, an aristocratic lady blackmailed by the Duke, and intends to find the letters he uses as hold over her. So, she is ready to outwit “The Prince of Schemes and Diabolical Plots”. It’s not an easy feat, though, or even safe, as the Duke can be dangerous.

“She ought to be afraid of him. He was a very bad man and she was completely under his power.”

Val is the most hated man in London, and wouldn’t have it any other way! Aside from being a blackmailer, he is irreverent and unconventional. I loved that there was so much more to him than the image of pure evil he likes to give of himself. He is a deeply broken soul, though. The emotional abuse he suffered as a child was heartbreaking. He was victim of his depraved father’s cruelty and his mother‘s hatred. Blackmail is always a means to an end for him. It gives him power, as a form of protection. He trusts no one, except his sister Eve.

Bridget and Val have apparently nothing in common. He is outrageous and libertine, she is very practical, proper and loyal. She loathes him, and can’t hide it, she constantly defies him. He finds this unpredictable opponent very refreshing. Their bickering arguments were delightful. I loved how their relationship progressed as the story unfolded and they slowly build trust with each other. Their sizzling chemistry was off the charts. I could feel their deep emotional involvement, as they fall hard for each other and Bridget gets to know the true Val, joyful, witty, bookish and adventurous. Above all else, she is determined to save Val from himself and his past, and there is hope that she will succeed.

“He looked at her and smiled that sweet little boy’s smile.”Do I need to kill anyone?”

This book was everything I hoped it would be: a dark and emotional journey into the mind of a compelling anti-hero and a thrilling love story. “Duke of Sin” is a great addition to the Maiden Lane series and I can’t wait for the ML novella that will be released in July. It can be read as a standalone, but I’m sure you will want to go back and read the previous installments in this series, including the first six ones, with the Ghost of Saint Giles.

Cottonbloom #1

A river divides Cottonbloom in two:
the upscale enclave on the Mississippi side and the rundown, rough and tumble
side in Louisiana. They’re worlds apart—but nothing can build a bridge like
love…
Cade Fournette never had it easy Cottonbloom. He stuck around long enough to
raise his orphaned siblings and then hightailed it out West—and never looked
back. Even though he’s made a success of himself in Seattle, Cade never lost
the toughness and the angry edge that helped him survive down South. His only
weak spot: the girl he left behind…Monroe Kirby came from the wealthy side of town, but that didn’t protect her
from her mother’s drinking—or her mother’s boyfriend. It was Cade who did that,
on a long-ago hot September night, before he disappeared…along with a piece of
her heart. Now Monroe is a physical therapist who can fight for herself, and
it’s Cade who could use some conditioning when he makes an unexpected return
back home. Will he and Monroe pick up where they left off and finally explore
their mutual passion—or will the scars and secrets of the past divide them once
more?

“You left Cottonbloom without telling me. Without saying good-bye. I want to know why.” Monroe hadn’t meant for the words to come out at all, much less with such vehemence.

“It was complicated.” Cade broke eye contact. “You were a good kid in a bad situation.”

“Weren’t you a good kid in a bad situation?”

He shifted toward her, bracing a hand on the dash and laying his other arm over the back of her seat, invading her space. She didn’t retreat. His intensity spurred her heart rate into an erratic gallop, yet she wasn’t intimidated. Perhaps it was only echoes of the past, but he made her feel safe, even when he was the one she should be scared of.

“I grew up fast and tough.” His voice contained more than a hint of warning.

“You were nice to me,” she said softly.

“Don’t fool yourself into thinking I’m nice. I wasn’t then, and I’m sure as hell not now.”

He ran a callused finger down her cheek, the rasp igniting her nerve endings like a flint. His hand continued south and wrapped itself in her braid, the slight tug on her scalp sending shivers through her body in spite of the sun bearing down on the truck. Her nipples felt tight, and she hoped her tight sports tank masked her sudden, inexplicable arousal.

He pulled her braid, forcing her toward him. She didn’t fight him. He dropped his face next to hers, his coarse beard hair caressing her cheek, his mouth close to her ear. “If I see something I want, I go after it and get it by any means necessary.”

“How very Machiavellian.” She tried a laugh, but it came out more like a stuttering sigh. His scent hooked her even closer, and her lips grazed the outer rim of his ear.

He pulled back, his green-eyed gaze roving her face. She returned the favor, noting the faint brackets around his mouth, the crinkles at his eyes, the thick beard. A full-grown man. Yet was he so different from the boy she remembered?

“Ovid.” The movement of his lips jammed the cogs of her brain. The word made no sense. Her confusion must have been obvious, because the mouth she stared at tipped up in the corners, deepening the grooves. “The Greek philosopher Ovid, not Machiavelli, actually wrote: The end justifies the means.”

“Ovid. Of course.” Apparently, Monroe had slept through that philosophy class at Ole Miss. The fact that high-school dropout Cade Fournette was quoting Ovid made her wonder what other mysteries she might uncover if she went digging.

Just when she was ready to grab a shovel, he released her braid and slipped away. His limp was less pronounced as he took the stairs holding the cane parallel to the ground. Although he’d physically released her, she felt bound to him in some other fundamental way, incapable of tearing her eyes off him until he disappeared behind Sawyer’s front door. Even then, she sat, unable to drive away for a long minute.

How could the simple brush of Cade’s finger ignite a fire when other men left her cold? As her arousal ebbed, she realized something else. She’d just been manipulated by a master. He hadn’t explained why he left.

She spent the evening going through the motions of her life, eating when her stomach growled and heading to bed when her eyes felt heavy. A few short hours ago, her life had been tidy and predictable and boring. Cade Fournette’s return had spun her into chaos.

Rating : 4.5 out of 5 Stars

The first installment in Laura Trentham’s new series is a touching and delightful story set in the middle of Cottonbloom, a small Southern town divided in two by the river : the wealthy Mississipi side and the poor Louisiana side.

Since the death of his parents, Cade Fournette lives with his younger brother and sister and their uncle in a trailer on the Louisiana side. His family is poor and he has to resort to poaching to feed them. One day, during his nightly activities, he meets Monroe Kirby, a young girl living with her mother on the Mississipi side of Cottonbloom. Terrified, she ran away from home after being molested by her mother’s boyfriend. Cade doesn’t hesitate to threaten the man to convince him to move out of town. Cade is a real knight in shining armor, protecting his younger siblings and his new friend Monroe. But Cade is forced to leave Cottonbloom, in search of a better future. Monroe has never forgotten him and still treasures the memory of their nights under the cottonwood tree.

Ten years later, Cade is finally back. A successful and ruthless entrepreneur owning an engine design company based in Seattle, his life is bigger and more exciting than anything Monroe could imagine. Cade has no intention of staying, but being around Monroe leaves him feeling off-balance. He is fascinated by her, she is honest, selfless and independent. During his absence, she has learned to protect herself and is a double black belt in jujitsu and karate!

Cade and Monroe complete each other perfectly. Circumstances have separated them, and they have been lonely for years. Now that they are reunited, their funny banter was delightful, their attraction intense. Both are confused about the storm of emotions they feel for each other. Their friendship is becoming so much more. But despite all his professional achievements, Cade still has feelings of inadequacy. Will he be brave enough to acknowledge that all he ever wanted or needed is still in Cottonbloom ?

Engaging characters, a beautiful story that kept me turning the pages, a perfect small town feel and flawless writing, this book has it all. So kudos to Laura Trentham for this new series and I’m glad Sawyer and Tally, Cade’s siblings, will get their own stories, because I wanted to stay in Cottonbloom for a longer time !

Crystal Reid is desperate to find the man of her life, and has resorted to online dating in the hope of finding this elusive Mr Right, but with absolutely no success. It has become quite an obsession, despite her passion for music. She feels she needs a change of scenery to find herself and decides to relocate for 6 months to the West Coast, with the help of her best friend.

She gets a job at a small winery in Napa Valley. The place is falling apart and the job is unclear though, ranging from cleaning to playing the cello for hypothetic visitors. Ed Martin, its owner, is rough and grumbly but intends to teach her some winetasting skills.

When she meets Nate Teller, the bartender of the place where she usually dates her potential Mr Rights, she is intrigued. Nate is emotionally unavailable, for a reason she doesn’t understand. She has made a checklist of the qualities of the perfect man, and Nate is the opposite of everything she wants in a guy. So why is she attracted to him ?

Nate is friendly but complex, he seems broken and hates love. He refuses to plan for the future, wants to live in the present. He is not interested in Crystal, but then he is… And when he starts romancing Crystal, she can’t resist him. But Nate has to reveal her the story of his life, and it’s not an easy one to hear.

I enjoyed this heartfelt story about love, friendship, fidelity and hope. I love Jeannine Colette’s narrative style and characterization. I have read all her books so far. This book was different from the previous ones in the series though, less passionate. It was more an emotional and touching exploration of a friend/lover relationship and Ms. Colette nailed it. Wild abandon is connected to Reckless Abandon, Crystal being a co-worker of Emma at the academy. However, it can perfectly be read as a standalone. I really enjoyed the little cameo of Emma and Alexander, the heroes from Reckless Abandon.

I received a copy of this book from the author and Wordsmith Publicity, in exchange for an honest review.

Glass Ceilings by A.M. Madden

28576367._UY200_

My Review

Rating : 4.5 out of 5 Stars

A.M. Madden writes for the hopeless romantics, and I’m definitely one of them! I have read most of her books so far, and have loved them all!

Glass Ceilings is a very engaging and intriguing read. I literally devoured this book ! The plot was mysterious and intense, but at the same time, it was a great story of true love and parenthood, with genuine characters.

For the last six months, Nick Farley has been the cocky and charming bartender of a trendy downtown Chicago bar. But in reality, he is an FBI agent on his last undercover assignment before being promoted. Meeting Angela Cavello during the last days of his assignment was obviously not part of the plan. Nick breathes his job responsibilities and having a personal life isn’t his purpose. However, despite all rational thoughts and well-laid plans, both Nick and Angela have to admit their connection and feelings for each other can’t be denied. I’m usually not a fan of all things insta, but in Ms. Madden’s words, it just felt right. This story is about true love and what is meant to be.

However, circumstances and ill-intentioned people get in the way of their future together and Nick loses all contact with Angela. Two years later, a murder investigation forces them to meet again. Nick is in his role of high-ranking FBI agent and Angela is a person of interest in a murder case. Despite Nick’s initial anger, their all-consuming love is still the same. And soon, everything will change in Nick’s well organized life, as he discovers the joy of parenthood.

In addition to being deeply emotional and heartfelt, this story was a great page-turner, with enough mystery and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat ! This book will release on May 24th, and I definitely recommend it! It’s the second installment in the “True Heroes” series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Sugar Daddy by Sawyer Bennett

25573737My Review

Rating : 5 out of 5 Stars

If I had to find three words to describe Sugar Daddy, it would be riveting, thrilling and sexy. Sawyer Bennett is an auto-buy for me, I love her stories, but this book is definitely my favorite by her. The writing, the storytelling, the pace were flawless. This book was intense and utterly addictive, but beware of the cliffhanger!

Sela Halstead was gang raped at the age of 16. She has always refused to let her trauma define her life, and has been trying to move on. But when she sees wealthy playboy entrepreneur Jonathon Townsend, JT, on TV, she recognizes him as one of her rapists. Back at square one, Sela has only one goal: make him pay and identify the other rapists.

“Infiltrate.
Murder.
Repeat.”

Despite all her seduction efforts, getting close to JT is no easy feat. As the co-owner of the mega-successful Sugar Bowl website, connecting Sugar Daddies with Sugar Babies, there are enough willing victims of his rough sexual proclivities. And Sela is definitely not his type.

But Beck North, the charming, sophisticated and equally wealthy co-founder of the Sugar Bowl might be the solution to her problem. Beck doesn’t do relationships, but after one night with Sela, he is fascinated by her and wants more, for the first time in his life. He offers to sign a sugar agreement, pay for her college debts and let her move in to his penthouse condo for a period of one month. Sela seizes this unique opportunity to get close to her rapist, Beck being JT’s childhood friend and business partner.

Beck knows JT has gotten out of control, and wants to buy him out of their business. Very different from JT, Beck is swoon-worthy, easygoing and caring yet enigmatic.

I loved how the author described the evolution of Sela and Beck’s connection as the story unfolded. It was realistic, tender, heartfelt and sexy as hell. But at the same time, I had a sense of dread in the back of my mind!

Sela is conflicted, she knows that using Beck as a pawn is a huge mistake, yet she doesn’t want her personal feelings for him to get in the way of her final goal. Can Beck forgive her for lying repeatedly to him, trust and honesty being so important to him?

I didn’t want this book to end… Needless to say I’m hooked and dying to read the next book, “Sugar Rush”. I highly recommend this fantastic start to a new series!

EXCERPT

He is about to take a shot. His eyes lose focus, and he stands and looks at me. “Why him?”

I tilt my head at Nate. I don’t know if they’re reflective of the green felt of the pool table, but right now, his eyes are so piercing and mesmerizing. I swear, he can see right through me.“Why was he worthy of a second date?” he asks.

I open my mouth to answer but close it for fear that I’ll say something wrong.

Why Brent? Because he’s emotionally available. Because he has the perfect career and a full head of hair and loves cats and classical music and is lukewarm to sports.

And, most importantly, because the man I really want to be interested in me is with someone else.

“He checks all the boxes.” My voice is low.

Nate’s chest rises with a deep breath. His eyes are stone cold and scorching hot all at once. He is so far away, yet I can feel his exhale on my skin.

With his eyes still on mine, Nate takes a step back from the table. “He has a lot of money. He can take care of you.”

I nod my head. “Yes.”

Nate takes a few steps, slow and steady, toward the corner of the table in my direction. His eyes curve in question, yet their focus never leaves mine.

“He was married. Probably ready to settle down again. Start a family.”

I nod again.

Even closer, he places his pool stick on the table. I have no idea what his mission is, but it’s making my palms sweat and my breathing erratic.

“Did he tell you that you’re beautiful?”

My breath hitches, and I nod my head again. Nate is now just a few inches from me. His gaze is hard and stern on mine.

“He’s an idiot. He should have told you that you’re fucking gorgeous.” His words are hypnotic, but the tone he delivers them in is rough, raw.

“That wasn’t a requirement. I don’t need a man to tell me I’m pretty.”

“I know what your boxes are. He is the perfect guy for you. That’s why I have to know…”

Nate’s chest is now flush with mine, his forehead bowing down to meet mine, and I lose all air from my lungs.

“Why are you here with me and not with him?”

I swallow hard. “Because he’s not you.”

ARE YOU READY TO RAGE?

“What you don’t seem to understand is all that matters right now is standing right fucking here,” Nolan said, his voice thick and deep. His eyes were the darkest I’d ever seen them, glimmering with wicked intent. One side of his full lips curled upward in a devilish smirk. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. I was consumed by him. Or at least, from the way he continued to fuck me with his eyes, I knew I was about to be.

Nolan took a step forward and I took two back. Our little dance made him chuckle, the sound coming from deep within his throat. With just that little laugh my insides clenched so hard I gasped. Nolan’s smirk grew into a knowing smile. His eyes darted to the space between my legs where my shorts had ridden up, exposing every inch of my shaking thighs.

He licked his bottom lip, tracing it with the tip of his tongue. My inner battle raged on between wanting to run away from him, and wanting to run straight into him. Although, it wasn’t like it mattered which option won out in the end. The pier was narrow, and Nolan was blocking my only way out.

He reached down and unbuckled his belt, sliding it out through the loops. Folding it in half, he snapped the leather together. The sound an echoing crack through the damp night air.

Our dance continued as he took another step toward me and I again retreated. “Since you don’t seem to feel the same way, let me tell you what’s going to happen right now,” Nolan started.

“I’m going to make you come on my fingers.” Step. “On my tongue.” Step. “And around my cock.” His last step closed the space between us. My back hit the railing, trapping me between the end of the pier and his hard wall of a chest. My breathing became even more labored, my chest rising and falling in quick succession against his. Pressing against my stomach I could feel the heat of his hard cock through the worn fabric of his jeans. My nipples hardened as the ache in my core grew into need. “I’m going to fuck you. Hard. And I’m not going to stop fucking you until you realize that this shit between us is all that matters.”

That’s when I realized there would be no escaping this time.

From him.

From this.

From us.

steamy novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Blurred
Lines,
country music’s favorite good girl hides away from the
world—and finds herself bunking with a guy who makes her want to be a little
bad.

Jenny Dawson moved to Nashville to
write music, not get famous. But when her latest record goes double platinum,
Jenny’s suddenly one of the town’s biggest stars—and the center of a tabloid
scandal connecting her with a pop star she’s barely even met. With paparazzi
tracking her every move, Jenny flees to a remote mansion in Louisiana to write
her next album. The only hiccup is the unexpected presence of a brooding young
caretaker named Noah, whose foul mouth and snap judgments lead to constant
bickering—and serious heat.
Noah really should tell Jenny that
he’s Preston Noah Maxwell Walcott, the owner of the estate where the feisty
country singer has made her spoiled self at home. But the charade gives Noah a
much-needed break from his own troubles, and before long, their verbal sparring
is indistinguishable from foreplay. But as sizzling nights give way to quiet

is. To fit into each other’s lives, they’ll need the courage to face their
problems together—before the outside world catches up to them.

Excerpt

Noah

“What time did you say this chick was arriving?” Finn asks around his cigarette.

“Tomorrow morning,” I say, rapping my toe against a funny-looking floorboard and wincing when it buckles.

“Huh.” Finn exhales and looks out the window.

I know that tone. “What?”

“Seems she might have gotten here early,” he says, a second before the quiet afternoon erupts with the sound of my dog losing his mind, mingled with the shrill piercing yap of a much smaller dog.

“Seriously?”

Finn shrugs and nods. “There’s a girl outside.”

“Shit,” I mutter as I head toward the stairs, dodging the two broken ones.

Ranger’s about as good a dog as they come, wouldn’t hurt a fly. But he’s a big dog with a big bark, and one serious weakness: gleefully humping smaller dogs. He’s a rescue, and though he was fixed after they brought him in, he’d already gone through canine puberty, or whatever. He’s still got the fierce urge to hump, although it’s more habit than hormones.

I exit out the front door just in time to see my big brown Lab leap forward, his clumsy paws finding the shoulders of a blond girl who lets out a shriek, holding a cat above her head like that scene from The Lion King.

“Ranger, no! Down.”

I run forward, my hand finding the collar of my dog and yanking him backward as I search the ground to find the source of the small-dog barks still piercing the air.

Then I register that the sound is coming from above, and realize . . .

The cotton ball isn’t a cat.

That orange piece of fluff is a dog, and Ranger is apparently in love.

“What the heck is wrong with your dog?” the girl says as she slowly lowers the puffball from over her head, cradling the hideous little monster against her chest as it continues its high-pitched bloody-murder yips.

“At least my dog is actually a dog,” I say, staring in horror at the pointy face of a canine that could fit in one of my hands. “I’ve seen dust bunnies bigger than that thing.”

“Dolly’s a Pomeranian,” she says, setting a hand on top of the monster’s head. “She’s supposed to be this tiny.”

“Well, Ranger’s a Lab. He’s supposed to be this normal.

“He attacked me,” she says, giving Ranger a wary look as his tongue hangs out the side of his mouth, his eyes locked lovingly on Dolly.

“He didn’t want you, he wanted the . . . dog,” I say, forcing myself to acknowledge that the creature in her hands might be part of the canine family.

“For what, dinner?”

I don’t respond, because now that the crisis is averted, I’ve managed to shift my attention from the dogs to the girl, and . . .

Holy shit.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been sucker-punched by equal waves of lust and disdain before.

Jenny Dawson is hot as hell.

I knew that going in, but up close she’s even more mouthwatering. Her white skirt is short and tight, her legs long and toned.

She’s wearing some billowing pink top, so I can’t get a good look at what’s happening there, but it doesn’t really matter. I’ve always been a legs man, and I can’t stop looking.

The legs are a 10.

The face is a 10.

And the long blond hair spilling over one shoulder definitely begs to be spread over a man’s pillow. My pillow.

And yet even as my cock says yes, my brain is saying hell no.

Gorgeous as she is, she screams diva from the pink toenails to the sky-high stiletto sandals and all the way up to the carefully made-up face.

I just turned my entire life upside down trying to get away from a woman exactly like this one, so this is definitely a look, don’t touch situation.

But I’m looking. I’m definitely looking.

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

I enjoyed this light and refreshing romantic comedy. In true Lauren Layne’s style, this story was funny, sweet and sexy ! I loved both characters, they were likable and well developed. Their witty banter made me smile all through the story!

Country singer Jenny Dawson is America’s sweetheart. But after being wrongly accused of having an affair with a married man, the media pressure forces her to consider a change of scenery. She decides to go on a creative retreat in Louisiana, in a house recently inherited by Noah Maxwell/ Preston Walcott. She hopes the magical surroundings of the property will help her write her new album. The house, however, is not in pristine condition, and Noah offers to fix it, which is the least he could do given its somewhat run-down state! But as a consequence, Jenny mistakes him for the caretaker.

Noah/Preston is a complex character, with a dual identity. He spent the first part of his childhood living with his single mother in a trailer park and the second part living also with his wealthy father, in shared custody. He has never been able to find his true identity and still has to juggle to fit in two very different worlds, represented by his childhood friends, Finn and Vaughn.

I loved Jenny. She is a sweet and honest girl, passionate about the music she creates. And she has the courage to put up with Noah’s snarky remarks and grumpy attitude!

Despite their respective initial prejudice and wrong assumptions, Jenny and Noah have great chemistry. Both need some time away and being together is a unique chance at a new start.  I enjoyed how their relationship progressed, from enemies to lovers.

I can’t forget to mention two important characters in this story, Jenny’s dog Dolly, inspired by Lauren Layne’s own Pomeranian, and Noah’s Labrador Ranger. Ranger has a mad crush on Dolly, resulting in some delightful scenes!

If you are in the mood for a charming, humorous and sexy read, look no further and try this book !

Thanks for visiting and happy reading !
