This modern-day retelling of Cinderella is a fresh and light romantic comedy, with engaging characters and a charming setting. I loved that the author revisited a formidable character from The Bet series, Nadine Titus.

Jane lives with her two lazy, selfish, social climbing sisters. She owns a cleaning company and is overwhelmed with work. In addition to her customers, she is constantly obliged to clean her sisters’ messes.

Brock Wellington is one of the country’s richest bachelor. To please his grandfather, he has accepted to allow women to bid on him. But the winner should not hope for more than a date with him! Brock has always done what was expected of him, but he is at a crossroads in his life, questioning his choices and priorities. He usually can’t say no to his grandfather who, in his opinion, has sacrificed everything to raise his three orphaned grandsons.

Meeting Jane is a refreshing change. She is a pretty, sassy and vibrant girl-next-door, very different from the socialites he usually dates. But she is a constant reminder of what he can’t have and he tends to retaliate by acting like a jerk, barking out his orders and snapping at her. Jane is dazzled by Brock but doesn’t enjoy his mood swings. Their antics were hilarious and their connection felt real. But is Brock ready to fight for Jane and give her the fairy tale she deserves?

Rachel Van Dyken is a versatile and gifted storyteller. When I open one of her books, I know I’m in for a treat! This delightfully romantic story involved fairy godparents, irresistible farm animals and nosy brothers. Overall, I enjoyed this entertaining, sweet and fun romance with a whimsical touch. And I can’t wait to read what Rachel Van Dyken has in store for Brock’s twin brothers, Bentley and Brant.

Gritty, sizzling, powerful and sexy, The Knight, book 2 in the Endgame series, exceeded my expectations. This angsty ride of suspense and sexual tension kept me hooked until the very last page and I devoured this book in a matter of hours. This story picks up right where The Pawn left off.

The hot, mysterious hero, Gabriel Miller, remains an enigma. Avery still questions his actual intentions. Is he her enemy or her lover? Even if she has feelings for him, one thing is for sure: he took possession of her family’s house and set into motion her father’s downfall. He seems to be playing a twisted game, toying with her hopes and giving her a false sense of freedom, when she is anything but free. Gabriel is possessive and controlling, but also caring and protective of her. Avery is a pawn in his twisted mind game. She knows she is bound to lose against him, but she will never surrender. The memory of her mother is vivid, and the mystery surrounding her death seems more and more to be the foundation of the intrigue. We get to know more about Avery’s mother personality and the men in her life. She was loved, but was she happy? A diary could provide an answer to some of Avery’s questions, but it seems that everyone is trying to keep her in the dark.

Gabriel definitely grew on me in this installment. I found his dark, stern and yet tender personality very attaching. He wants to protect Avery from the truth, but try as he might, she wants to remain independent. Avery is young, but she is a fighter and wants to discover what really happened to her mother. Enemies are lurking in the shadows, though, and Avery and Gabriel get ever closer to danger.

This book was emotionally intense and addictive. We get some answers, but the mystery remains. The evolution of Gabriel and Avery’s relationship was satisfying. Skye Warren certainly delivers with this gripping story of love and intrigue. The Knight definitely left me anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, The Castle.

“You always want what you can’t have… it’s human nature.”

Since reading Hooker, I have read every book J.L. Perry has released, and I will continue to do so! The story of Harrison and Hanna was beautiful, emotionally intense and full of heat. J.L. Perry’s writing is fluid, the pace is perfect and the characters are so attaching! This book was absolutely unputdownable.

Despite the odds, Harry Williams has become a very successful business owner in the cut-throat real estate industry. In his professional life, he is ruthless and driven, in his private life, he is a sworn bachelor who has never been in a relationship for a long period. It’s obvious that is primary focus has been his business and he can be a very demanding boss. He grew up in a poor and dysfunctional family and found his motivation in his desire to be nothing like his parents. This hero is confident and yet so vulnerable.

The only woman he has ever wanted is his best friend Ethan’s little sister, Hanna Scott. Hanna is the woman of his fantasy and he considers her more than a friend. He wants a common future with her. Harry is definitely a genuine character, a bit complicated but very endearing! He is convinced that he can’t be in a relationship with Hanna, though. Ethan doesn’t trust him with his sister, and he refuses to lose his best friend or the only real family he ever had. The Scott family has been a constant source of support since his childhood. With them, he felt he was home.

“I don’t think she has any idea, but she undoes me on so many levels. She’s on my mind from the time I wake, until the time I go to sleep. Even then I dream about her.”

Although Harry is fighting his all-consuming attraction to Hanna, things get complicated when she steps in as his temporary personal assistant. Hanna is a wonderful heroine, she is sweet, caring, sassy and has deep feelings for Harry. She has decided it’s time for her to act on those feelings. Does Harry stand any chance of resisting her?

The Boss is a heartwarming, sexy, uplifting and elegantly written short story that tugged at my heartstrings. The dual point-of-view was well-done, with a particular mention for Harry’s perspective. I loved this story and would definitely recommend it.

“Good morning, Mr Williams.”

Mr Williams? She’s never called me that before. It’s always been Harry or Giant. That’s her comeback for me calling her Shrimp. She’s four-foot-seven, so my six-foot-three frame, towers over hers.

Spinning around, I almost swallow my tongue when I find her standing in the doorway to my office. She’s wearing a high-waisted tight fitting skirt that stops just above her knees. It hugs her body perfectly. I can see a hint of white lace protruding from underneath her white silk blouse. She looks like an angel. A sinfully, hot as hell angel. The thin red belt around her tiny waist matches her sexy red heels. She’s sex on legs, a walking fucking wet dream.

I swear I’m holding my breath as my eyes drink her in. Her long blonde hair is pulled into a bun at the nape of her neck, and the red rimmed glasses she’s wearing not only frame her beautiful blue eyes perfectly, they turn me the hell on. She has this naughty librarian thing going on and it instantly has my mind going into overdrive. I picture her releasing her long blonde locks from where they’re being held captive, and imagine her shaking her head from side to side as her hair comes loose and cascades down her lean back. I shake my head and suppress a growl as I try to bring my mind out of the gutter and back into reality. What in the hell is wrong with me? Like always, she’s playing the starring role in one of my many fantasies. This shit has to stop.

When my eyes finally meet hers, I find her smiling. Did she just witness me checking her out? Thank fuck she can’t read minds. I’d be in deep shit if she could. Having her here is going to be harder than I thought.

Clearing my throat, I tug at the tie around my neck as I take a step closer. I’m suddenly feeling claustrophobic. “You don’t need to call me, Mr Williams, Han.”

“What did your other Secretaries call you?”

“Mr Williams,” I chuckle.

She looks up at me from beneath her glasses and I’m pretty sure my heart just skipped a beat. I could drown in those damn eyes of hers. “Well, Mr Williams it is then.”

“I’d feel stupid hearing you call me that.”

“Only in the office,” she replies with a smile. “Outside of here, you’ll still be Giant, my brother’s pesky friend, or just plain old Harry.”

“Your brother’s pesky friend, hey?” I say, pulling her into a headlock.

“Yes,” she laughs.

“Take that back, Shrimp.”

“Okay. Only mildly pesky … and only on occasions.”

We’re both laughing when I release her. She’s like no other woman I know. Things are so easy around her, just like breathing.

“So now we’ve got that established, where do you want me to start?” I smile when she eagerly rubs her hands together. I like her enthusiasm.

“Come, your desk is out here.” The thought of moving her desk into my office, flashes through my mind. That would be asking for trouble; trouble I don’t need.

Placing my hand on the small of her back, I lead her out to reception. Once she’s seated, I get her to log onto the computer. “I have a conference this afternoon, I’m going to need you to make sure all the files are in order. I’ll also need you to print out copies of my presentation, for them to follow.”

“That sounds like something I could do.”
“Click on the Jensen merger file,” I say, leaning forward and pointing to it on the screen. I inhale a large breath when her fruity, yet flowery, smell invades my senses.

“Did you just sniff me?”

“What? No.” Standing to full height, I clear my throat. “Why would I sniff you?” I deadpan. Jesus. I’m starting to look like some kind of sniffing freak. In my defence, she shouldn’t smell so good. I need to get my shit together if I’m going to come out the other end of this unscathed.

“Okay. No need to get so defensive. I thought I heard you sniff.”

“Nope. No sniffing. I definitely didn’t sniff you.” I’m such a damn liar. I so sniffed her.

“Okay. You didn’t sniff me,” she says, shrugging her shoulders. “Relax. Geez. It’s no big deal.”

“I’ll email you a list of jobs that need doing this morning. After lunch, you’ll need to set up the boardroom for my presentation.”

With that, I turn and head back into my office. I need distance.

New-to-me author Jennifer Blackwood really impressed me with this fresh, fun and romantic story. I didn’t know what to expect going into this book and what I found are vibrant characters, top-notch humor, witty dialogue and a great story.

Zoey Reynolds has landed a renovation project that could launch her career of designer. As it happens, the renovation of the ski resort will involve a close cooperation with the ex-man of her dreams, Ryder Covington. A pro snowboarder temporarily on crutches, he has time on his hands and has accepted to step in to help the owner of the resort, his brother Jason. But although Ryder is in charge of the project, he doesn’t want to see it through.

Ryder and Zoey’s antics were hilarious. Zoey not only dislikes Ryder for hurting her feelings in the past, but also for being a risk to her job and frustrating her to no end. Zoey is very determined, ambitious, direct and she holds no punches. She has never forgiven him for leaving her without an explanation.

Ryder was an amazing character and he definitely grew as the story unfolded. He has been going through some traumatic experiences, and wants to figure out his future life. I loved his interactions with his brother Jason, we get to see another side of him. Ryder is not a player, he regrets that his past actions caused Zoey pain. His confident, cocky and arrogant stance is only a front. The old saying suggesting that money can’t buy happiness really applies to him. But although he wants a second chance with Zoey, he remains loyal to his brother, and keeps challenging her.

I enjoyed this fun, swoony, true love conquers all story. The dual point of view was well done, giving a lot of insight into how the characters fit in each other’s lives. This book is the second installment in the Rule Breakers series, but it can be read as a standalone. If you are looking for a feel good book, with humor and emotions, then The Rule Maker is a great pick.

Shaken to my core, I sag against the counter, gripping it hard for support, and let out a ragged breath. “Jesus. Is that what it’s like for you with Kat? That feeling like you’re . . .”

“Free-falling?” Nico supplies when I can’t find the right word. “High flying? Completely out of control?”

When I look up at him, he nods. “Yeah, brother. It is. At the beginning. And then it gets so much deeper and so much better, there aren’t any words for it at all.” His eyes—bright, cobalt-blue eyes that made him famous—pierce me. “But be careful. Because once you get on that speeding train, you can’t get off. Even if it jumps the tracks, crashes into a nuclear power plant, and burns the whole world to the ground.”

He gives me one long, last look and then turns around and leaves.
