Attractive couple cuddling at the beach

Being butler to a widower and single father is a dream job in more ways than one for Charlotte “Charlie” Emerson. She helps keep businessman Ethan Archer’s household running without a hitch and enjoys every minute she has with his six-year-old son, Wells. But as time passes, the situation feels alarmingly intimate and when her heart starts beating faster each time Ethan steps through the door, Charlie must exert rigid control over her feelings.

With her secret, falling in love would be all kinds of bad…

Ethan Archer values the woman who keeps his life in order and cares so much for his motherless boy. He and Charlie act in harmony with each other and it’s not hard to picture them as a little family…in fact, it’s so easy, one reckless night he proposes a marriage of convenience.

What will he do if Charlie says yes? And worse, what if she tells him no?

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Who doesn’t love a single dad romance? This book was my first read by Christie Ridgway and I really enjoyed it. Charlotte, Charlie, Emerson is the efficient and capable butler to wealthy widower and single dad Ethan Archer, and the nanny of his six-going-on-seven son Wells. She is sweet, kind and cares deeply for the little boy. Wells is a sweetheart and the hardest part of Charlie’s job is not to lose her heart to him or his father. Ethan is the epitome of hot single dad, but he is also a grieving widower with austere good looks. He is convinced that his son needs a woman’s presence in his life.

Ethan has tried to keep his interactions with Charlie impersonal, but he is lonely and can’t deny his attraction to her. He is contemplating a proposal, a marriage between them would be a practical, sensible arrangement.

Charlie doesn’t see herself marrying for romantic reasons. She would settle for an arrangement giving them a level of companionship or partnership.

There was no unnecessary drama and the pace of the story was perfect. This book was heartfelt, charming and emotional. Charlie’s secret was so sweet but was also a huge revelation that potentially threatened Charlie and Ethan’s relationship. I loved the romantic aspect of the story and I enjoyed the dynamic between these two endearing characters, they were honest and genuine. I’ll definitely check out more from C. Ridgway.

The Contract by Melanie Moreland

A tyrant by day, a playboy by night. That is the reputation that precedes Richard VanRyan. He lives life the way he wants, no concern for the opinion of others. He cares for no one, is completely unrepentant, and he has no desire to change his ways.

Katharine Elliott works under Richard as his PA. She despises him and his questionable ethics, but endures all the garbage he sends her way, because she needs the job. Her end goal is far more important than the daily abuse and demands she tolerates from her nasty tyrant of a boss.

Until the day, he asks her for something she never expected. A new role with a personal contract — fiancée instead of PA.

What happens when two people who loathe each other, have to live together and act as though they are madly in love?

That’s what happens.

Can the power of love really change a person?

Will they survive the contract?

What do you do when the one person you hate the most becomes the one person you can’t live without?

My Review

Rating : 4.5 out of 5 stars

I loved this sweet tale of redemption, based on a favorite trope of mine : enemies to lovers. Richard VanRyan is the definition of the horrible boss, cruel and uncaring, with a reputation of playboy after working hours to boot. Katherine Elliott is his long- suffering PA. She hates working for him, he makes her life hell, but she needs the money and has no other choice

Katherine is a wonderful heroine. Smart, loving and strong, she is also blunt and a tough cookie who definitely has a backbone.

Richard is driven and used to be in control. He is desperate, though. He was passed up for partner and wants a new professional start. He is convinced Katherine is the best person to help him convince his prospective boss that he has the required profile of family man. He wants to hire her Katherine as his fiancée. She accepts because she needs the money to pay for her foster mother’s care.

Richard and Katherine intend to make a success of their fake engagement, they try to get to know each other in record time! Their collective efforts to improve the image of their couple were laugh-out-loud funny! They are virtual strangers, Richard is very private and never speaks on a personal level about himself. Building mutual trust is not easy, but bantering comes naturally to them and they begin to enjoy their discussions. Richard is attracted to Katherine and enjoys her cutting sense of humor. We see them become allies, finding comfort in each other’s company.

As it happens, Katherine and Richard were a match made in heaven. I loved their casual banter, their warm and cozy interactions. The marriage for show might become a reality. But Richard is complex and broken, and has great difficulty letting his guard down. He is vulnerable and capable of feeling deeply, even if he tries to hide it. There was so much sexual tension between them, but also so much tenderness.

Katherine and Richard’s journey was as emotional as it was fun and sexy. The Contract was a fantastic read from start to finish, with genuine and engaging characters. I loved every minute of it!

I received a copy of this book from the author and Inkslinger PR.

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Bad Deeds picks up where Damage Control left off. The character development was strong in this book, we see gradual changes in some key characters as the story unfolds and the multiple point of views provide some insight into their personality.  This installment is full of intense drama, intrigue, secrets, white lies and suspicions.

Shane’s feelings about his dysfunctional family are conflictual. The Brandon family has become a group of enemies observing one another. Everything his father does seems to have an endgame and he enjoys his mind games, not bothering about the consequences for his sons. His mother’s agenda is still unclear, even though she seems up to some kind of trouble. The strong rivalry between Shane and his older brother Derek is still ongoing. This character is slowly becoming a central element of the story. He is insecure and his jealous resentment against for his golden-boy brother runs deep. In this installment, we get a better understanding of his motivation and he is portrayed in a more positive light.

There is danger everywhere for Emily and Shane is desperate to protect her as best he can. He walked away from his successful career of attorney to save his family’s name. He has a vision for his family company and illegal activities are not part of it, even though he is manipulated into doing business with a drug cartel via a partnership. But Shane is shrewd and fully able to level the playing field.

Shane and Emily are perfect for each other, not only do sparks fly between them, but they are able to open up to one another and to realize that they can trust each other. The dynamics between them played out nicely in this book.

The writing style of Ms. Jones was utterly addictive and fast paced. This time around, I found that there were a few useless repetitions, though. Much like its predecessors, this third installment in the series ends with a cliffhanger. I’m still hooked!

“What is in your head right now?”

His eyes heat, darken. “You. Always.” He inches back and looks at me. “You’re mine. Mine to protect.” His voice is low, fierce, and he grips my panties and yanks them away. “Mine to fuck.”

I gasp and grab his shoulders. “Shane.”

His answer is to wrap his arm around my waist, pull me close, his cheek against mine, his fingers pressing into the V of my body. “Wet, just the way I like you,” he says, pressing two fingers inside me. “Wet for me. And too fucking perfect for my sanity sometimes.”

“That doesn’t sound like a compliment,” I pant out, grabbing the lapel to his suit as a sweet ache begins to build in my sex as his thumb strokes my clit.

“And no one else,” he murmurs, nipping my earlobe, “will ever touch you like this.” His fingers caress deeper inside me. “No one,” he adds, “will ever make you say their name like I want you to say mine right now. Say it.”

“Shane,” I whisper, and not because he wants me to, but rather because it’s there on my lips, the way I wish his tongue was on my lips now. “Shane, I—”

Seeming to know what I need, he cups my head and kisses me, long, slow, sensual strokes of his tongue that somehow make every touch of his fingers more intense.

“Come for me,” he murmurs, and this time when he kisses me, I start climbing that wall to release, and I’m there at the top in an instant. I stiffen while his fingers and tongue tease, please, and then I jerk, I’m over it, tumbling in an instant into shudders and shakes. Shane’s lips lift from mine as he breathes with me. His fingers slow as he eases me through the waves until I collapse against his chest.

He tangles his fingers in my hair and drags my mouth back to his. “And no one but me will ever make you come like that again,” he declares, the waves of his emotions beating down any embarrassment I might feel over having had an orgasm on his father’s desk.

“No one has ever made me feel what you make me feel, Shane.”

Review : Black Sheep (Dark Desires #2) by Zara Cox

By Zara Cox

Dark Desires, #2

August 8, 2017

Trade Paperback: $14.99 USD

My Review:

Rating : 5 out of 5 Stars

“In a family of cold-hearted black sheep, I, Axel Rutherford, am the blackest. Abundantly despised by my three brothers, actively hated by my father.”

Dayum, this romance was compelling, it kept me hooked until the last page. Zara Cox’s riveting storytelling took my breath away, I was consumed by the story of Axel and Cleo, two childhood sweethearts doomed from the start by their parents’ greed. Black Sheep is epic, amazing, intoxicating!

Axel Rutherford is haunted by demons from his past and by Cleo’s betrayal. She was his one true love but she chose his father, Finnan Rutherford, over him. Eight years later, Axel is worth billions but money didn’t bring him happiness or redemption. He is bitter, tortures himself with his longing for the woman he can’t have and is plotting his revenge. He intends to dismantle his family’s business, linked to the violent world of underground crime and trafficking. This character is fascinating, calculating, intense and multilayered! His need for punishment was heartbreaking.

Cleo is nothing but a pawn in Finnan’s Rutherford twisted game to regain his son’s cooperation. Finnan is cruel and manipulative, blackmailing and abusing her. She complies but is bent on revenge and is biding her time. Axel and Cleo are bitter enemies, but their hatred for each other is based on false perceptions and deception. Cleo is convinced that Axel killed her parents in cold blood and Alex can’t forgive Cleo’s betrayal. There is however a fine line between love and hate.

“Gentle. Sexy monster. Caring. Cold-blooded psychopath.”

Axel is cunning, dominant, powerful but under his compelling exterior, he is utterly vulnerable. Cleo is his weakness, his addiction and he can’t break her, even if he wants to. For years, he has tried to shut off his emotions, he feels exposed and raw. Cleo and Axel’s feelings are unchanged and their reunion really packed a powerful emotional punch! Their sexual chemistry is intense, dark and highly erotic.

I was mesmerized by the deep layers of emotional complexity, palpable tension and angsty feels throughout this dark and mysterious story. Black Sheep is the second installment in Zara Cox’s Dark Desires, but it can be read as a complete standalone. I highly recommend it and will read anything this author comes up with next!

This book is now available in print!

Review : Damage Control (Dirty Money #2) by Lisa Renee Jones

Published February 21st 2017 by St. Martin’s Griffin

My Review

Rating : 4 out of 5 Stars

Damage Control picks up where Hard Rules left off. Shane confronts Emily with her lies. She isn’t the person she told him she was. Emily may have hidden her identity, Shane’s suspicion angers her. She is in trouble and she doesn’t want to expose him to danger by association. She is on the run and is targeted by a powerful international hacker organization. She can’t afford to get attention.

Even though she wants him to let her go, they have a bond that can’t be denied. Shane wants to finally get to know the true Emily, but doesn’t believe that she is his enemy. He is not worried by her secrets, but he can’t accept that she doesn’t trust him with her true identity and motivation. He never loses, and he won’t accept to lose her. Shane is in deep, he can’t stay away from Emily, and she doesn’t want him to.

Emily wants to be Shane’s partner, she is no damsel in distress. Shane has many enemies and is surrounded by people of double standards and opportunists. He could definitely use Emily’s help to find ways to clean up Brandon Enterprises. There is a strong rivalry between him and his older brother, to the point that they have become enemies in a battle to gain control of their family conglomerate. Shane intends to take the lead of the company, clean up the dark and dirty side of its business activities and put an end to his family’s connections with cartels.

Mystery, duplicity, white lies and scorching hot romance all come into play with this brilliant series by Lisa Renee Jones. But beware of the cliffhanger! The writing style of Ms. Jones is utterly addictive. I never can get enough of her fast-paced, riveting stories. I can’t wait for the next installment in this intriguing story, “Bad Deeds”.
