He’s a mess…Asher Knight has three constants in his life: music, beautiful women, and a
bottle of Jack. He lives for the next gig, the next city, and dreams only of a
life spent in front of an arena full of screaming fans. But Asher’s nomad ways
come to a sudden stop when he learns he’s the father of a three-year-old from a
past relationship and suddenly this rock star bad boy is forced to put down roots.
Only she can clean up.
Gloria Shields is no one’s fool. Sure, the sexual chemistry between her and
Asher has always been intense, but she’d never risk giving her heart to a man
who has a perfect record for breaking them. Except the man desperate to make
things right with his newfound son is nothing like the rock god she’s guarded
her heart against for years. And it isn’t long before she starts to wonder if
life with this bad boy might be the best thing that’s ever happened to
her.

“Listen, Asher”—she cleared her throat and tore her eyes away from his biceps, which were absolutely delicious and testing the limits of his T-shirt in the most distracting way possible—“I don’t know what you think you’re doing—”

“No, you listen.” He palmed her hip much like Brice had earlier, but unlike Brice, when Asher touched her, her nipples perked up and every inch of her grew warm. Asher’s nearness, one hand gripping her firmly as he looked down at her with dark hunger in his eyes, was so hot she couldn’t think.

The crowd milling around them were having loud, drunken conversations, so he lowered his face to her ear to speak.

“I’m coming for you, Sarge.” His hand moved from her hip to her lower back, his fingers splaying wide and slipping beneath the material of her shirt. “Bet you’ve never had anyone come for you, have you?” His nose moved along her ear, warm breath tickling her skin. “Bet you were a rebellious teen with a nose ring and a bad attitude and all you wanted was to feel good.”

No nose ring, but the rest was scarily accurate.

“Well, guess what, honey?” he continued, his fingertips sizzling on her bare skin. “I’m going to make you feel good. I’m the only one who can.”

He pulled his face away and she had to will her mouth to close. Her teeth clacked together as her brain scrambled to figure out what part she should argue with first. Wrenching a fist around his T-shirt, she tugged him close. A small smile played on his mouth, and his hand went higher beneath her shirt. He was anticipating a kiss, but she wasn’t going to kiss him.

“Listen up, you arrogant bastard.” Anger vibrated through her arms and a charge shot from her toes to the crown of her head. “You don’t get to claim me. I’m not your property. I can do whatever I want.” Because she wanted to wipe that stupid smirk off his face, she added, “And I can do whomever I want.”

His lips flinched, but he didn’t back away, stepping even closer and touching the tip of her nose with his. Her vision was now swimming in dark hair, dark eyes, and the sexiest smirk she’d ever seen.

It’s not sexy. It’s stupid, remember?

But it wasn’t. And the rest of her knew it. Her nipples tightened, her body tingled, and the hand she’d wrapped around his shirt began to sweat…

“You do me, Sarge. No one else,” he said.

“I’m not”—she had to swallow around a very dry throat to finish—“doing you.”

“Brice McGuire doesn’t know how to make your body sing. I do.” He slid his nose along hers and moved his hand from her back to her hair. She shivered. “Want me to make your body sing, Sarge?”

 My Review

Rating : 5 out of 5 Stars

Jessica Lemmon is a very talented author, she gives life to her characters in such an authentic way that, as a reader, I had the feeling to be a part of their story. Needless to say that I devoured this book ! Return of the Bad Boy is the fourth installment in the Second Chance series, a favorite trope of mine. It can be read as a standalone, the author does an excellent job at introducing all her characters. It was my first book by Jessica Lemmon but, after enjoying it so much, I have started reading her other books !

The hero of this story is Asher Knight, the childhood friend of Evan Downey and Donovan Pate, the heroes of previous installments in this series. I love how the characters are connected in some way or the other in this story.

Asher is an amazing character and he totally made me swoon ! A famous rock star and a single dad, he is also the author of children’s books featuring a badass bovine, named Mad Cow ! Asher is a sexy rock god with a very soft, sentimental side. He is the perfect match for Gloria Shields, the strong and sassy woman he loves from afar, who also happens to be his literary agent.

He wants to find his roots and be a good father to his 3-year-old son, Hawk. In order to be closer to his son and to his buddies, he has purchased a vacation home in the lakeside town of Evergreen Cove, where he used to spend his holidays as a child. Living in Evergreen Cove also gives him the opportunity to be closer to Gloria, and to try to win her back. Asher and Gloria are soulmates, their emotional connection runs very deep, but trust issues have separated them. Asher needs to convince his “Sarge”, the nickname he gives her for barking orders at him, that his manwhoring ways are over and that his home is with her and his son.

This book was a total winner for me. It was such a wonderful story that tugged at my heartstrings, with bright and genuine characters ! The sense of family and friendship is predominant in Jessica Lemmon’s books and I love it. I highly recommend this book and this author ! All the stars for Gloria and Asher !

Thanks for visiting and happy reading !

Looking for a Bad Boy Fix?

Guest Post : Five Reasons Women Love Bad Boys By Jessica Lemmon

Oh, the bad boy. Who doesn’t love a guy in black leather, with a wicked curve to his smile, and a gleam in his eye that says, “Come on, baby, let’s get into trouble.”?

I never knew I was the bad boy type…until I started writing them. Now I can’t get enough. What’s beautiful about bad boys is there is a wide range. From down and dirty to hard and gritty to the kind of bad boy I love to write the most: the sweet heat.

You know the type. The kind of guy who is a good family man at heart, but won’t hesitate to toss his woman over his knee. The man who is loyal to his friends, but still takes physical risks that put him in danger. From billionaires, to ex-military landscapers, to rock stars, I’ve written many, many bad boys. And I’m not stopping any time soon.

Here are my top five reasons women like you (and me!) love bad boys. I’ve also included a few of my bad boys as recommendations. Which one is for you?

  • Bad Boys know who they are. They may be jerks, but they know they are and aren’t afraid to be that way. The key to any successful pairing with a bad boy is to find a heroine who challenges him. Bad boys don’t shy away from challenge. They take it on.
    See: Fighting for Devlin

  • Bad Boys are confident in the sack. Because they have had so much *ahem* experience in the bedroom, the woman who lands a bad boy is going to find he’s pretty darn good at what he does in there. He knows how to please her, and because of a stubborn streak a mile wide, he’s not going to stop until he does.
See: Bringing Home the Bad Boy

  • Bad Boys are unpredictable. The girl of his dreams probably dated some schmoe before she dated him, and that guy likely ironed his socks. Meanwhile, her new bad boy beau is telling her to pack a bag because he has a surprise for her, and he’s not going to tell her what it is.
See: A Bad Boy for Christmas

  • Bad Boys are loyal. He won’t abandon his true friends, or a family that’s done him right. While bad boys often run from what’s hurting them, they still have a network of friends they will never cut out of their lives.
    See: Rescuing the Bad Boy

  • Bad Boys love endlessly. Once you win a bad boy’s heart, he’s not going anywhere. He values the love of a good woman the way he values a shot of the best whiskey: through to his soul. Bag one of these boys and you’ll experience a lifetime of love and loyalty, and a healthy dose of toe-curling unpredictability.

Excerpt – Come Together

As the elevator ascended, David’s body seemed to grow bigger, his bearing predatory. I was his cornered prey—and he was about to strike. After a charged moment, he nodded at the doors. “Go on.” In my thickening haze of anticipation, I hadn’t even noticed our arrival at the penthouse. “We’re late for a very important date,” he said.

“And what date is that?” I asked as we stepped off.

“You, me and nothing else. Leave everything at the door.” He unlocked the apartment and held it open so I could pass through before him. As I did though, he snatched my elbow. “I said everything.”

Over my shoulder, my gaze met his brown eyes, dark and lusty. He let the door slam to merge his body against my backside, gripping my shoulders roughly in his hands. “I’ve been crazy for you all day,” he rasped in my ear. “And although I love this nude dress, I want it off. Now.” He dragged the zipper down and dropped to his knees. I gasped when his lips touched the base of my spine. His hands skated up my exposed back and slid over my shoulders, releasing the gown so it slumped at my feet. They came around to my front, where he spread his fingers across my stomach. A moan vibrated against the small of my back, sending a shiver up to my shoulders.

He stood and wrapped an arm around my chest, his hardness pressing against my spine. His other hand dropped to pull me open by my inner thigh and touch me through my underwear. I was panting, swaying when he released me suddenly. “Jesus,” he muttered.

“I can’t control myself with you.”

Through oversized windows, the city glow lent the only light to the room as he circled in front of me. I put my hand in his and stepped out of the dress, following as he led me down the stairs into the sunken living room.

“Keep those on,” he instructed, motioning to my new black stilettos. He removed his blazer and lit the fireplace as my body, alive with desire, wavered unsteadily in the four-inch heels. He emptied his pockets onto a side table and removed his Rolex. He undid his bowtie slowly with his hooded eyes fixed on me. His limbs, strong and brawny, moved fluidly as he shed clothing. I wanted to learn the contours of his body with my eyes, my fingers, my tongue. And when he looked at me that way, like it was the first time, I could barely help from melting at his feet.

Someone Like You (The Harrisons) by Jennifer Gracen

26025620._UY200_My 4.5 Stars Review

After a heart-break, Abby Mc Cord has moved back to her parents’ house on Long Island. She is a first-grade teacher and during her free-time, she also coaches the kids’ soccer team of her town.
When Pierce Harrison sees the team playing … and losing, he comes to the conclusion that Abby could do with some pro tips and volunteers to help with the coaching.

This famous wealthy bad boy’s life is not what it seems. After a miserable childhood, he has decided to get away from the billion-dollar legacy of his family and has been playing professional football abroad for more than a decade. But after a scandal has forced him to retire, he has recently moved back home. He is at a crossroads and needs to decide how he will make a life for himself.

He finds Abby’s normalcy and spirit very appealing. He is fascinated by the warm way her family interacts, caring about one another. Neither Abby nor Pierce can deny they are attracted to each other, but can Abby let her guard down, to live in the moment and give a relationship a chance?

I loved both characters, they were complex, generous and genuine. Both crave for something more in life, and that “more” still needs to be defined. This story had depth, was romantic, emotional and sweet. It is part of a series about the wealthy Harrison family but can be read as a standalone.
I will definitely follow this author in the future.

Magnate (The Knickerbocker Club #1) by Joanna Shupe

26025392._UY200_My 5 Stars Review

I loved this book ! It’s definitely one of the best romance novels I have read this year. Joanna Shupe is a very talented author and a great storyteller.

Magnate is the first full length novel in her new series about a group of business tycoons in Gilded Age, a period that fascinates me. After reading and enjoying Tycoon, the prequel novella to this series, I had high expectations ! I was not disappointed, Magnate is a book to read and re-read ! What totally seduced me in this story are the characters, even secondary ones. The author also cleverly integrated vivid period details in her plot, including the Great Blizzard of 1888.

Lizzie Sloane might be a New York blue blooded, she is desperately in need of a wealthy and influential business partner to get her brokerage firm up and running. She has a talent for stock speculation but such activities are totally unacceptable for a woman from the old families of New York society.
Emmett Cavanaugh has built an empire starting from nothing and has a reputation of ruthlessness. He might not be Lizzie’s first choice, but he is the only one accepting to help her… if she wins a nearly impossible wager.

I loved both characters, they complemented each other perfectly. Their witty banter was delightful and they had great chemistry. Lizzie is a wonderful heroine, she is spirited, determined, smart and generous. Emmett simply can’t resist her, despite his reputation of being as malleable as granite ! He is driven, relentless in business, but also responsible and loyal. He won’t hesitate to marry Lizzie to save her reputation. I loved how their relationship progressed from an arrangement to deep love, with some roadblocks along the way. The emotional aspect of the story was very well developed and had depth.

I highly recommend this beautiful story and I’m looking forward to reading “Baron”, the next book in the series !

Excerpt

I scoop up the last bite of cereal from my bowl as I stand. “We should probably get going,” I say, still chewing. “IKEA gets crazy on Saturdays, and I don’t want to risk them being out of stock on the extra-large shelves.”

“You have that many dolls?” Liz asks, looking torn between being creeped out and feeling completely sorry for me.

“Fifty-seven and counting,” I say, straight-faced. “And actually, Ben, if you’re going to be a while, I might just run upstairs and brush their hair? I noticed last night Polly was starting to develop a tangle.”

Ben drains his coffee, pushes back from the counter, and shakes his head at me. “You poor, sick weirdo.”

Then he turns to Liz, putting his hands on her skinny waist and pulling her forward with an apologetic smile. “You mind if I take a raincheck on breakfast?”

I barely hide the snort. In Ben’s world, raincheck is a synonym for I’m going to intentionally lose your phone number.

In under a minute, Ben is nudging Liz out onto the front porch, and, impressively, she doesn’t even look pissed. I follow them out, just to be annoying, watching as he whispers something in her ear. Her eyes go wide and sympathetic and she gives me an It’s gonna be okay, little buddy smile. She heads toward the sidewalk with a wave.

“What did you just tell her?” I ask, taking a sip of my coffee as we watch her leave.

“I told her you were an abandoned orphan and that the only thing your birth mother left you with was a doll named Polly. Hence the sad obsession.”

I shake my head. “You know I’m going to have to rewrite the house rules. And No dolls will so be going on there.”

Liz turns back and gives one last wave. Both Ben and I wave back, and I can’t help myself. “Enjoy your walk of shame!” I call after her, my voice sweet as sugar.

Liz’s head snaps back as though trying to determine if she heard me correctly, but Ben puts a hand over my face and shoves me back into the house before closing the front door.

He absently rubs a hand over his abs as he looks me up and down.

“You should change. You can’t wear your ratty booty shorts and that ugly T-shirt to IKEA.”

“First of all, you can absolutely wear your rattiest and ugliest T-shirts to IKEA. That’s pretty much the IKEA dress code. And second, we’re not going to IKEA. Really, are you getting so comfortable with your lies that they become fact in your mind?”

“We are going to IKEA,” he says, running both hands through his short brown hair before heading toward the stairs.

“For what?” I ask.

“I need a new dresser.”

“What’s wrong with your old dresser?”

“It broke.”

I wrinkle my nose. “How the hell do you break a dresser?”

He shoots me a look over his shoulder and wiggles his eyebrows.

It takes me only seconds before I put the pieces together. “Airhead?” I hitch a thumb over my shoulder at the departed female. “You banged her against the dresser?”

“Hey, she was unusually tall, which gave me the unusual opportunity and prime angle to—”

I slap my hands over my ears and start singing Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” my default protective gesture whenever Ben gets a little too colorful with descriptions of his sexual antics.

Another house rule: Parker absolutely does not want to know what happens in Ben’s bedroom.

“Hey, do you and Lance have plans today?” he asks.

“Maybe you should have asked that before you mandated an IKEA trip. But no, he’s got an all-day study group.”

Lance is getting his MBA from the University of Portland.

“Cool. Let’s grab lunch after.” He heads into his bedroom without looking at me.

Lunch, huh?

I narrow my eyes and sprint up the stairs after him, pushing open his door before he can shut it in my face.

Sure enough, his dresser is definitely leaning unhealthily to one side, and I count two, no make that three, condom wrappers.

He pulls a green polo from the tiny closet in the corner and looks around his messy floor until he finds his jeans.

I wait expectantly.

“What?” he asks.

“Lunch?” I lift my brows. And wait for the explanation.

Ben scratches idly at his slightly stubbled chin. Sharing a bathroom with the guy, I know he shaves every morning, but the stubble seems to be perpetual.

“Well, you know that girl I dated a couple weeks ago? Kim?” he asks. “She wanted me to go to her sister’s engagement brunch, and I told her I was busy all day. But she’s just crazy enough to stop by and see if I’m actually out of the house, so I thought we should be elsewhere. . . .”

I hold up a hand. “Fine. I’ll be your alibi. But I get to pick the restaurant, and you’re buying. Oh, and you have to put the toilet seat down every day for an entire week.”

He raises his hand as though wanting to say something in class. “I’d like to add a house rule: Parker isn’t allowed to tell Ben how to pee.”

You don’t make the house rules. I do. And I didn’t tell you how to pee,” I say exasperatedly as he wrenches open a dresser drawer and pulls out a pair of boxers. “I’m trying to do your future wife a favor by teaching you how not to be a pig.”

He inches by me into the hallway. “Another house rule: Parker shalt not say profanities as future wife to a dedicated bachelor.”

“You’re not a dedicated bachelor. You’re just a typical horny twenty-four-year-old dude, and, again, you don’t make the house rules—hey!”

He shuts the door to our shared bathroom in my face, and too late I realize that I’d missed all the classic signs of a skilled Ben Olsen diversion. He’d just wanted to beat me into the bathroom.

“Don’t use all the hot water!” I shout, pounding my palm on the door.

The door opens just enough for me to see one blue eye blinking back at me. “Didn’t you say Polly had a tangle? You better go get on that.”

The door shuts again, and I pound a second time. “Remember, the green towel is mine. The white one is yours.”

I wait for confirmation, but there’s only silence.

“Ben, I know you can hear me! Don’t ‘accidentally’ use mine just because yours smells funny.”

More silence.

Damn it. He is so planning to use my towel.

So, yeah, my best friend is a guy. Doesn’t mean I have to like it all the time.

Deceived pulls you in immediately, from the get-go ! To summarize, it’s “Orange is the New Black” meeting “Revenge” ! I could not put this book down, finding every opportunity to read that I could !

Olivia Michaels is promised to a bright future. A brilliant research analyst with a brokerage firm, she has an impressive professional track record and is engaged to the man of her dreams. Until her whole world comes crashing down around her when she is wrongly accused of insider trading and of the murder of her best friend, Charlotte. Dirtiest Secret (S.I.N. #1) by J. Kenner

28000237._UY200_My 5 Stars Review

It has been a while since I read a book by Ms. Kenner, and I am so happy I did, because I adored this story combining dark, suspenseful and intriguing with hot, kinky and sexy.  I am totally addicted to the characters, to the beautiful writing and storytelling of the author.

Billionaire Dallas Sykes, heir to a retail empire, might be a shrewd businessman, he is also a legendary manwhore. But who is really this man ? What secrets does he hide behind his endless quest for pleasure and control ?

Appearances can be misleading and in this story, the mirror has two faces. Behind the spectacle he gives of his public life, hides a deeply broken soul, craving for Jane, the woman he can never have. He is also a man on a secret mission : a cold-blooded and implacable revenge against those who broke him. All his adult life has been organized to achieve this objective, with the help of a few very close friends. And the final aim is in sight.

There was so much depth to the way the author describes the relationship between Dallas and Jane, it was heartbreaking to see what happened to both of them, from their dual POV. The emotional aspect of the characters was extremely well developed. I could feel their pain, their endless love for each other that, I’m sure, will eventually conquer all.

This brilliant, intricate and steamy story ended with a final twist I didn’t see coming, that really packed a punch ! I can’t wait for the next book, more precisely I’m dying for it !

Worth It All (The McKinney Brothers #3) by Claudia Connor

24689419._UY200_My 4 Stars Review

Jake McKinney has seen his dreams shattered after a car accident. Crippled and traumatized by the consequences of the accident he caused, he feels unworthy of having a family one day. His focus has been on his successful business, engineering high-tech prosthesis. When he meets Paige Roberts and her four years old daughter Casey at a diner, he soon realizes that he could help them. He is also very attracted to Paige. But both of them are cautious and feel inadequate for different reasons. Paige sees herself as a plain, unnoticeable person and is ashamed of her trailer park background. Working two jobs and studying to make a better life for herself and her daughter, she doesn’t want a man to distract her from her goals, even a sexy and gorgeous one like Jake.

Can these two caring, generous persons take a chance on love and give a family to little Casey ?

This book was a pleasant, heartwarming and easy read with great main characters, a wonderful little girl and members of the close-knit and vibrant McKinney family. If you are in the mood for a sweet and feel-good story, this book is perfect for you.

Worth It All is the third book in the McKinney series, but can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the first two books in the series yet, but will solve that asap !

Always for you : Jack (Sergeant Joe’s Boys #1) by Alexis Morgan

25982502._UY200_My 4 Stars Review

Jack McShane recently had to deal with two heartbreaks : the death of his beloved foster father and a serious knee injury forcing him to retire from the Special Forces. He feels the story repeats itself when he becomes the legal guardian of Ricky, a runaway teenager who has been living in the streets for some time, just like him more than a decade ago. The description of the young boy’s difficult family situation was heartbreaking.

Thanks to his foster parents, Jack and his two adopted brothers have had the chance at a better life and he wants to do the same for Ricky.

Caitlyn Curtis is the tutor hired to work with the boy. I loved Jack and Caitlyn’s interactions, both are generous, caring and genuine characters. They share a common objective to protect and give hope to Ricky. They need to gain his trust and identify who wants to hurt him. The focus of the story is also on the attraction they feel for each other. I must admit that I would have loved their romance to be less instant and more developed by the author.

For the first time since her divorce, Caitlyn feels ready for a new relationship. Jack is very insecure, due to his rough start in life, before he was adopted by his foster parents. For both of them, the time has come to let their guard down and give a chance at happiness together.

Overall, I enjoyed this beautiful and heartwarming story of hope and love, with a wonderful family spirit. The characters were well-developed and full of positive energy. I loved Jack, he is tender, loyal to his foster father’s last wishes and deeply attached to his family. There was a lot going on plot wise, that really kept my attention. I can’t wait to read more about Jack’s brothers in future books in the series.
